Why do Bands/Comedians Continue to use Ticketmaster?

Wouldn't it behove them to cut out the middle man and collect their own made up fees directly that add $20 to the ticket price?

I wish I had an answer but I don’t. I got charged a $12 printing fee a year ago for electronic tickets. I’m close to going Tyler Durden on the ticket master/ live nation buildings

Louie CK did something like this before his scandal. He sold directly from his site. If Ticketmaster included the price in their total beforehand, I'd be far more likely to buy from them. Southwest does this. Once I see a huge increase for literally no reason, it makes me bitter and go to Stubhub for less.

We picked up Disney on ice tickets through ticketmaster and we paid the price of an extra ticket for their fees etc.
3x 50 dollar tickets ended up being like 205

Its because of the facilities, not the bands. For instance, UNO Arena or whereever will have a contract with Ticketmaster. If the band wants to play there, ticketmaster is in charge of the tickets. Pearl Jam tried to fight this in the 90's and had to play in City Park in order to not use ticketmaster.

LiveNation, which owns ticketmaster, owns a bunch of venues too. They own the HOB and Fillmore chains plus others around the country.

Like car dealerships and liquor reps it's an artifact of days gone by. Lot of money tied up in it but it will disappear soon enough

Do they have a choice? I thought the arenas handled the tickets and they all (for the most part) have let TM do it for them.

As others have said it's more the venue and not the artist. Even Louie CK sold standup tickets thru his site he couldn't play lots of venues. He did a podcast interview talking about it and it sounded like a pain in the arse on his part. I'm sure that's also part of it the logistics of selling Tix and finding venues in every state you want to play.

What cut out the Jews? That will turn out well. Several bands like Pearl Jam have tried but were buried by them.

That’s perfectly fine, but Ticketmaster should advertise the show at a cost of $90... not 59 plus fees.
And they should be called INconvenience fees fwiw.

And most likely doesnt include "fake tix" insurance which is total bs. Nothing worse than walking up, and being told your tix are fake.

Ticketmaster was founded by leffler, Nelson, and Gadwa.
I’m not sure you even know any Jews.

Wrong. My wife works for a major venue. They are just that...a venue. Live Nation produces the events and has a contract with them to use the venue. Live Nation contracts the bands (although I think they as the venue have some say on who is and isn't booked). Live Nation sells the tickets and makes the profit and the venue is just paid based off the contract. Live Nation sets ticket prices. And guess what, Live Nation owns Ticketmaster....has almost 0 to do with the venue in terms of fees.
Unless you are at a venue like below where there is obviously a more direct tie between all players.

It’s not the venues, it’s the promotion company (LiveNation or whoever).

The worst are the sites with the percentage fees where the fees go up proportionate to the ticket price. It doesn’t cost anymore to run a credit card.

You know who else is getting bad about that? Airbnb. Rented one this weekend with a $250 cleaning fee.
It should be a law that you have to fully load the display price.

Not defending ticketmaster, but you're incorrect on this aspect.
Transaction fees on a credit card have two parts. A flat charge (which is usually very small), and a percentage of the transaction, which is typically 2-3% charged to the merchant (ticketmaster.) I'm sure with the volume TM does, they probably get a very low rate.
