Why did Georgia’s film industry crush it so hard but Louisiana’s crumbled?

The kids were watching something on Disney Plus and I was watching the credits. At the end, it was just one more of a bizzilion I’ve seen with the “Filmed in Georgia” logo. For awhile we were making all kinds of movies here, and I remember some folks heavily criticizing the way our film credits worked. Then some politician tweaked the program and suddenly, nobody’s making shite here.
What does Georgia have that Louisiana doesn’t? We even had the advantage of oil and gas here. What did they have? How has Atlanta managed to eclipse New Orleans as an international city at such a rate in the last 50 years? It’s not like our demographics are really all that different.

Idiots at the Louisiana Capital decided to de-incentivize films and movies from being made here by capping the tax credits.

More Louisiana dumb arse political bullshite. They are the reason this state is a shithole. If it weren’t for NOLA and LSU football this would be one of the worst areas on the planet.

Some people in Louisiana thought that not charging taxes somehow meant that we were paying for movies to be made here.

Because Georgia has been literally giving away the store for free
More than 5 billion dollars in the last 15 years
No where near that much money pumped back into the state because all those people just end up leaving
Look up Georgia auditing film tax credits. Its all this year.

It’s just something else somebody beat us at here. It’s so unbelievably difficult to stay in this shithole. I haven’t ever compiled a list, but if more than half of the people who post on Tiggerdoppings didn’t live in another state, I’d be absolutely shocked.

Same dumb shite organizations like Together Louisiana say about the ITEPs. They argue Louisiana is established enough that companies and corporations won't pack up and leave. We have seen just that with the movies and starting to see it because of ITEPs in the industrial sector too.

The state is not "giving it away". They don't charge the films some of the taxes to encourage them to film here. So let's say in the course of a film, they were supposed to pay $10M in taxes. The state basically says, "hey, if you film here, we will only charge you $5M in taxes". So the state gets $5M in taxes along with an economy boost (as a restaurant worker back when LA first did the tax credits, I can tell you personally about the boost we got from movies). Without the movie coming film in your state, you get $0 and no boost....it's pretty simple.
ETA: Or at least that's how the tax credits had worked in Louisiana

Hollywood has been using and abusing states for decades with this. Of course the state of Louisiana didn't "lose" taxes because of this (like many believe / thinking the state paid money to make movies here), but the return of money being dropped into the local economy is never as much as Hollywood always tries to sell to states.
it's funny how Hollywood typically looks for red states to film at in order to receive the generous tax breaks. they do everything in their power to avoid their blue state utopias that tax them to hell and back.
the moment the state of Georgia puts their foot down on some of Hollywood's BS, they'll pack up and move on to the next red state for a few years. they've been doing this for years.
