My closing argument:

He served on the personal staff of MacArthur. In addition, he was personally requested for by George Marshall to head the War Plans division as a relatively junior officer in comparison to his peers.
lackluster military careerl
I am no huge Ike fan, but you need to learn more about him and Marshall.

George C. Marshall was probably the greatest military mind of the last century. He ran a two-front war from his office, hired the right generals for the right assignments, and managed logistical and administration duties that would make even the greatest businessmen of today shake their heads in impressed disbelief.
As for the USMC...they have the greatest propaganda arm of any branch in the U.S. Military. Their accomplishments in World War I and World War II, while impressive, are greatly overplayed at times.

I used to admire MacArthur, but I read his autobiography (entitled Reminiscences) in college and grew to dislike him. As for the book, save yourself, it's extremely long-winded, condescending and pedantic.
MacArthur may have been one of the most intelligent general officers in the history of the U.S. Armed Forces, but he fancied himself somewhat of a military king and treated his commands, notably while Field Marshall of the Philippine Army, as quasi-fiefdoms.
His act of attempting to block General Wainwright's Medal of Honor because he'd surrendered to the Japanese was the ultimate act of hypocrisy, considering he received his after fleeing Corregidor for Australia while his men stayed and fought on to certain doom.

Interesting how much of a lackluster military career Ike had for the first 20 years he was in service, relatively speaking, and how quickly he rose after that point.
He can thank George C. Marshall for that.

The greatest Propaganda wing? I served in both Army and USMC. I can tell you which T-shirts I wear, and I don't get paid to do it. Marine Corps-all the way.

I just read a book not too long ago called, "There's a war to be won". The first half of it is basically Marshall wheeling and dealing trying to build an army of 150k to 13 million in 4-5 years.

Truman also wanted to do away with US Navy aviation until Korea came along.

Read better.
Everything you cite happened after that. You need to learn how to read with more emphasis on details.
Thanks.

Keep in mind, Truman commanded a 75mm battery in France during WW1 and got shot at...a lot of interwar bad feelings between the Army and Marines goes back to Belleau Wood, where the Marines were part of the 2d Division which had one Army brigade and one Marine brigade...

And What happened there In Belleau Wood?
If I am not mistaken, that is where Marines first got the Knick name" Devil Dogs",on top of all kinds of Honors and appreciation from The French Women.

Good for you. The Department of the Navy signed your paycheck for the entirety of your stay in the Marine Corps.

Correct - the USMC makes headlines - the US Army makes history.
Deal with it.

The U.S. Army did most of the fighting while the Marines got the headlines.

That's right, they also provided me with slutty nurses to frick and give me blowjobs at the pool, whenever I was at a duty station.
I always considered the Navy to be my gay accountants.

The USMC is a fine service, but every time I deploy with them, you can tell the chip on their shoulder is almost overbearing.
I guess when they realize the Army is the core of any DOD operation, and isn't going to sit around all day telling them how 'special' they are, they kind of feel lost
But at the end of the day, I love 'em. Part of what makes America great.
