I own a restaurant that makes money, laid off my entire staff now my wife and I are working day and night making take out orders trying to stay afloat. Busiest time of the year for us had the best week we’ve ever had in 8 years the week before the shut down. My people work hard and don’t have much. Then I come read this and wanna punch you right in your stupid teeth.

If it is an SBA loan it is a loan. SBA does not do grants. PERIOD.

I hear that. What I'm curious about is the part where loans are supposed to be forgiven of employers don't lay off employees. Is that going forward or will someone like you have to pay the loan back.

Kinda seems too little too late for them to make it a gift for some who are lucky enough not to have laid off employees vs loan for people like yourself. Sucks all around.

It’s my understanding that if the loans are used for payroll, they can be forgiven. If they aren’t used to fund payroll, they would function as a regular sba loan

it was in my op

quote:

Loan forgiveness
Businesses with 7(a) loans guaranteed between March 1 and June 30, 2020, would be eligible for loan forgiveness equal to the amount of maintaining payroll continuity during that time period.
Payroll costs would include:
Compensation of an individual employee in excess of $33,333 from March 1 to June 30, 2020
Qualified sick leave and family leave wages allowed under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act
The loan-forgiveness amount couldn’t exceed total payroll costs incurred from March 1 to June 30, 2020. The amount would be reduced if the business cuts staff during that time period or reduces employee pay by more than 25 percent. The reduction is calculated from a formula, which changes if a business is a seasonal employer or employs tipped workers.
To apply for loan forgiveness, a business would have to submit documentation and make a good faith certification that the uncertainty of the current economic conditions justify the loan request.
The lender would have to make a decision within 15 days of receiving a loan forgiveness application.

Ah yes you right. I did hear payroll mentioned. But Could the loan be used to re-hire help and then be forgiven? I mean 10-15k could get a deli or small restaurant re-staffed for at least 2 months. Just curious if it can't be applied to re-hire/re-staff.

I'm not sure what we are supposed to do. It’s maddening and confusing.

How are y'all figuring you're getting "back some of your money?"

You think they're cutting the budget somewhere else to do this? Do you realize they just created more money out of thin air money? Stop and think. You're getting nothing other than more debt down the road.
