re: Why are some adults obsessed with Disney World?

I'm not obsessed but I appreciate the amount of detail and work that is put into disneyworld. Amazing what happens when you give someone with OCD and vision a bunch of money and let him do his thing.

also doesn't account for the 2500 or so i'll spend on other things as well..
We normally budget about $100 per day for "stuff". That's tee-shirts, toys, whatever. This does two things, it controls the extra spending and it also makes sure we don't buy so much stuff we can't load it all up for the trip home. If you're not careful, you can buy so much "stuff" there that you can barely fit all of it, your luggage, and your family in the vehicle for the trip home.

I thought Disney world was fun the 2 times I went but it seems pretty boring to go there for vacation every year. What do you do, ride the same rides all over again?

The place is constantly changing and adding things. No 2 experiences are alike. It's just like anything else in life. It will only be what you make of it.

I typically give my two oldest kids a WDW gift card loaded with their trip spending limit on things like that.. You be surprised on how stingy those turds can be..

I've got two kids (girl 6 and boy 13) and we try to go every 2-3 years. I've found that doing this ensures that each time we go there's new things that they like. For example, when they're about 7 or below they will love things like "It's a Small World, little mermaid show, etc. Then as they grow older they will be into other things like Space Mtn, Rocking Roller Coaster, etc. If you wait until their older they will miss out on all the stuff there for little kids and if you only take them when they're little, they will never get to do the things for bigger kids.

knowing my 6 yr old. The first day she'd do something like buy a lifesize Cinderella Castle playhouse for about $700 or so then spend the rest of the week wanting everything else she sees. And then at the end of the trip, I'd still have a huge box to strap down to the top of the Tahoe and hope it makes it back to Alabama.

There is so much more to Disney other than just the rides. It got two water parks, a lot of new restaurants are always popping up, activities at the different resorts, different dining shoes like hoop Dee Doo review, the spirit of aloha dinner show, the backyard barbecue etc. We always do different things, but for us what keeps us coming back is more than just space Mountain 47 times over a week .
Plus, as young kids age they can start to do more rides as they hit different height requirements. So one trip they may be too short for splash Mountain, but the next time they can do it. Same thing goes for things like Everest, Tower of terror, rocking roller coaster, etc. As far as the shows go, they can start to appreciate some of the other little jokes in the shoes, or some of the meet and greets where the interaction with a different character changes as the kids get older.

You may already know this. If you're staying at a Disney resort, when you're in the parks and buy something, all you've got to do is fill out a form and instead of having to haul your stuff around all day, they will send it back to your resort and you can pick it up at your resort's gift shop that evening. Just one more little detail that Disney does to make vacationing there so awesome.

I think you could literally go 6 times before you did the same thing over again. Between all the parks and all the choices.....
Posted on 4/27/15 at 10:40 am to Darth_Vader
Just make sure you don't do it the day before you depart. Sometimes it can take more than a day.
If it is the second to last or last day, you can always have it sent to the front of the park and pick it up when you leave for the day.

yea well I doubt he's spending 6800 for a disney vacation and OT poor
It doesn't surprise me or anything to spend that much on a vacation. That's what I'd plan to spend when I go to Disney. My thing is that if I'm going to spend that kind of money, I want to do something new. One year it will be Disney, but the next it will be the Caribbean, the next Alaska, the next Europe, Asia, Australia, etc.. I'm not dropping 3k+ each year to go to Disney, as that will get in the way of financing those other vacations.
I went to Disney in elementary school and middle school. That was it. I enjoyed the time as a kid. But I cannot see dedicating an entire trip as an adult. And I think that's what the original thread was about. Not taking your kids, but obsessing over it as an adult.

Going without your kids to Disney, even once a year, does not have to equate to obsessing over it. Dedicating an entire trip to it as adults doesn't mean obsessing over it either.
Now, if you're talking about going without your kids once a year, for a week and that's your only vacation then yes that could be obsessive. But those people are very few and far between.
It's a Disney bashing thread dressed up like something else just like the rest of them are. I can promise that most people who like Disney aren't hoping that thousands of people who currently don't go to Wdw and don't like it will soon change their mind.

I definitely know people who go for a week as an adult, and that's what I'm referring to. My MIL has a Disney room in her house completely decorated in Disney characters. My son got Disney clothes from them as soon as he was born. I'm not trying to bash it. I just don't get it personally. It's not for me. I want to take my kid there (maybe a few times). I have no personal desire to go there. My in-laws are already planning the trip to take their grandson. It was probably on the top of the list of things that were thought of when he was born. Again, nothing against it, and their "obsession" with it will be beneficial to me, but it's just strange to me to see how interested people are to go there more than anywhere else.
It would be nearly impossible for me to make a list of all the places I want to go in the world. I'd constantly be finding new things. My train of thought just isn't to go back to the same thing. Glad that people who go there enjoy it, but you have to understand that others are going to think it's odd.

I know people go for a week and don't bring kids, but are they going without their young kids or just don't have any to bring?
Like many have said, there is TONS to do there for people who don't have kids. Especially for those not seeking desolate areas, physically challenged, elderly, etc.
Going for a week when you don't have kids to bring is not the same as going for a week and not taking your kids IMO.
And while we chose to return to Disney at least once a year it doesn t stop other vacations we take (Hawaii, Sedona, Paris, cruises, Chattanooga, etc). Yes, some people will find it odd but people often think things are odd.
I'm not concerned with what someone considers odd. My comments here are almost solely dedicated to provides factual information because a lot of people make assumptions and statements off of outdated memories or stories they may have heard somewhere else that are just off base. I try to provide an accurate vision of what Disney is and can be.

Well, if there's one thing I know it's that people like to be called odd.
Just get over it. It's a fun place.
