If I recall correctly, Utah Raptor wasn't well known at the time. Spielberg wanted to make the velociraptors big for dramatic reflect, and then lo and behold they finally name Utah Raptor in 1993 when the movie came out which basically made Spielberg's raptors scientific after the fact outside of the name.
