Oh the irony.

As far as poster professions go, the oil and gas guys may have a majority on this board. Lots of them make for lots of truck nut, and F-250 jokes. I don't think the one summer I spent working on a pipeline makes me an expert on them, but I do get there jokes.

Likewise with PhDs, I would expect that in an educational setting, you would refer to them as "Doctor" or "Professor". I don't see a problem with this.
Again though, I know plenty of people with PhDs and none of them have ever requested to be referred to by their title outside of work.
Used to work with a guy that insisted on being refereed to as Doctor. He was a PhD, not MD. He wasn't the only PhD in the office either, he just wanted to feel special.

So whats wrong with being uneducated and making honest, and legit money? (See the majority of Hollywood, or pro athletes).

I could care less about being addressed as Dr.
This is my experience as well. I have never called my or my kids doctor anything other than their first name. with a firm handshake and eye contact when greeting. They are just men like the rest of us.

could care less about being addressed as Dr. and rarely introduce myself as such..even to patients. I know many who are the same. Gotta love a good OT generalization tho....
Not generalizing, I said it was my experience. I know four MDs and about as many PHDs. They all take umbrage when addressed by something other than their title. I didn’t say it was the entire medical profession.
They worked hard for their degrees. I understand them wanting the recognition.

The pride in being uneducated,,, as you, so eloquently and gramatically correct, and pointed out. (Retard).

Easy. They are proud that they work hard and earn their way. It's synonymous with being an American.

I'm not annoyed by it. I just wonder why it seems to be mostly in that particular field
Maybe cause you’re looking for it. You should probably delete your Facebook account. Then you’d only have to be offended by what you see on automobiles.

Because they are so pleased with themselves that they managed to find a decent paying career despite low expectations.
It's not exclusive to them though. I've met douches in a lot of professions.

Seems only oil and gas workers do this regularly. It reeks of insecurity
I was wondering this earlier. I have a ged and made over 200,000/year for the last 5 years running. I’m always trying to fit in how much I make into a conversation. I’m starting to think my friends that went to college and make $75,000 are trashy. I wish I were a better person.

Okay, this comment just made me laugh and I'm too stupid to know why I think it's funny, but this thread's been pretty entertaining.

Identification is one of the three issues that spiritual traditions address. I'm Irish. I'm a roughneck. I'm a fanatic fan of Philadelphia. Celtics rule!! I'm Catholic.

the only rich farmers I know
1. Have paid off family land
2. Have family money
Or
3. Work 16 hour days every day of the y
That’s because most of the guys you know are south la rice farmers, not Miss Delta farmers who can grow 5 different crops and make big yields on all
