Why are people mean and downvote non-opinion posts?

I can see someone downvoting a post because you state an opinion other people disagree with, or you start too many bad threads.
But, why would you downvote a post where a poster lists her top three websites to visit? 29 downvotes? Seriously, there's no opinion, nothing controversial, nothing to agree or disagree with.
It really is kind of mean. It is all cool and I'm not upset, but still, pretty unnecessary.

I did at my farm try this year, but the big rains ruined most of it. I do have some squash and tomatoes.

I'm a big Reddit poster but the voting crap on this board seems inconsequential. This board doesn't seem to be built for topical threads but discussion of topics. It's been an adjustment tracking discussion points.
