Pretty much any color other than white, black or silver is a $350-$750 option. I don't know when that started. But lots of folks don't care enough to pay more for a certain color.

I mean, almost every car has bright colors available from the factory. What is the point here?

Average on the roaf cars aren’t as colorful as they were 20 years ago. Speaking from experience. Whatever reason.

And they make up a small percentage of that model sold compared to drab colors.

Do you go around policing other people’s threads to ensure they meet your high standards for random discussion? If not what did I ever do to merit your special attention?

Get laid, get some air, or whatever you need to do man.

They aren't going to sell a lot of bright red or yellow minivans to soccer moms.

Sorry you start dumb threads. Bright colors were never the most popular colors. It's not hard to figure out. You're just having selective memory about the old days.

As far as unusual colors go, BMW crapped out these two options for the M4

When I was shopping the M4 I had a sales guy tell me that the body color and wheel combo for the top picture (powder blue) was a "no-brainer." thanks for the pro-tip

In the late 60s, the cars were drab like you're saying

The only cars you see rolling around now from the late 60s are restored with expensive paint jobs. You think I'm restoring a classic and going cheap on the paint?

Eta: 20 years ago? The cars in the 90s and especially the 80s were dogshit looking across the board

It is true the most car sold in America these days are a drab color, much more so than in the past. It's just like with housing. Seems people prefer to remain under the radar these days. It's just something about life in the USA these days where people just want to fit in

That's not because there aren't other colors available. It's because the average car sold is band-aid colored, so that's what dealers put on the lot and the average American is so bland and impatient that they can't fathom waiting a month to get a car built to their exact specifications and will just buy whatever the salescritter shoves down their throats.

God, I hate people. I'm having a very misanthropic morning. I'd ask someone for a hug, but I fear I'd just stab them.

The paint options are all the same cost on the M4. The wheels on the top are the Competition Package wheels - those are the most expensive and require the addition of the Competition Package (+$5000).

I get that some people like it. I think it looks horrendous.

I like it, but it wouldn't be my choice if I were buying an M4. If I didn't go with mineral grey, I think I'd go with the metallic orange.

Articles all over the web on auto and business websites talking about this very topic, including a Wikipedia entry that references the phenomenon. But the discussion isn’t good enough to discuss for member Lnchbox on Tiger Droppings.

Don’t change dude. I am amused that my threads get a rise out of you.

You act like I hunt your threads down, or give you special treatment. I haven't posted in almost all of your most recent threads. get over yourself.

Good question.

Even the interior colors don't really get creative.

There are several auto manufactures who produce their inventory in colors that mimic the color pallet of a bag of Skittles
