Good. I guess it all worked out.

That's our fricked up nation. Might still be the best.

So, there is that.

Accountability for law-enforcement. Imagine if the police department could arrest and lock you up but not have to disclose to the public who was in custody.

For the same reason you can see exactly what I’m paying my ex wife every month. Sorry for giving your soon to be ex wives grand ideas.

Thankfully my arrests were in the GOPHER days (before widespread http), and the parish couldn’t even bother to finish the paperwork.

I can look up tax records of my neighbors, what their house is valued at, my friend’s divorce decree, etc. the problem isn’t the data, it is HR c&nts and everyone they have made risk averse over the last 30 years.

If there is an arrest, probable cause exists. That’s enough. You want secret courts now?

That doesn't make sense... what do you mean by "substantiated".

Trial by peers in a court of law... If it even makes it that far. Many arrests are done as a convenience to LEO that get dismissed after the fact, but a mugshot and arrest record remain, often with a newspaper article declaring the suspects guilt without trial.

quote:

under your terms no crime could be reported on until the trail is over... ain't no right of privacy if one is accused of a crime...

There's also that pesky presumption of innocence thing. How do you balance that with blasting someone's mugshot for all to see based on a lack of privacy after getting arrested, for someone who is supposed to be innocent until proven otherwise?

It's the difference between arresting somebody and disappearing somebody.

Think about the alternative... get arrested and no one knows where you are. Gives cops carte blanche.

Besides, if there's an arrest there's a form of probable cause and thus a judge or magistrate will be involved, and that triggers public notice when that happens.

I 100% agree. When I see the recent arrest mugshot porn paper at the register at a local gas station it makes me sick.
