Porn companies like social media do not want to push the tech for reasonable age verifications and want to rely on the honor system due to making money off minors who they can blame for lying when the minors get caught breaking the rules.

It is virtue signaling, because it does nothing to limit access to porn generally, only access to US sites like pornhub.
Anyone can have a Reddit account with zero age verification beyond a click. Anyone can access the many thousands of sites that are not US based.
The law does nothing to prevent minors from viewing porn. It’s performative
