Living in the suburbs AND a working wife? Some people have it hard.

The last time we did this thread, we learned that one poster hated Houston because he spent a weekend with his cousin in Pasadena.
Pasadena is like the lost legend of Atlantis

Though from the 80's, our office moved from near Belt 8/Katy Fwy and to Pasadena (company owner picked up land with offices in a bankruptcy sale for next to nothing). I was commuting from Memorial. Drive time was cut by an hour due leaving work @6 PM instead of 5 PM. I was so glad when two years later we moved the office to the Greenway Plaza area.

During the oil boom days, some commuted from Conroe.
Before the ex wife and I split in 89 we were thinking of moving from Memorial to West U. I ended up living across the street from the beach in Seal Beach and running a project in Carson (in Los Angeles county). Ex took the kids to a suburb of Austin.
As far as restaurants go, of course NOLA is the place. But to say it is void of nothing but chains is ridiculous. I spent a lot of time there in 2014 trying to put a deal together which thankfully didn't work out of my Sugarland based partner and myself. We'd have lost our asses while it seemed promising the technology didn't pan out in real world operation. There were many different restaurants we met at during the day with the technology owners. After those meetings we often would go to another restaurant to meet alone to discuss various issues, some would even open up for us after they closed from lunch shift and waited on us hand and foot, bringing hors d'oeuvres gratis for us to snack on while we spent next to nothing but tipped generously for the service. Now that was Galleria and River Oaks areas, not exactly the burbs. My oft times partner does like Indian food, I think he got into that stuff as a young adult in London due they stayed open and served alkeehol after pubs had to close. Lots of Indian restaurants on SW end of town.

Only people that hate Houston live in the burbs. Never met anyone inside the 610 loop that didn’t love it.

I lived in River Oaks (in the loop), sold my house there in 2013.. it’s a nice area, but i cant say i ‘loved’ Houston, at all, and i was definitely glad to get out.

Bingo. Had a great time as a single young adult inside 610. I would have hated it if I lived in an apartment complex in Katy.
Family business brought us back to North La. fortunately we were able to get a nice sized, probably our forever home for less than what we would have paid for something in the Heights. Also helped that my townhouse in Houston increased 40% in value from 2011-2015.
If we would have stayed there, I would only want to be inside 610 or perhaps Briargrove etc. anything in the burbs is too generic and not actual Houston.

Yes, I have seen some of those folks with The Woodlands attitude, but at the same time, do your realize how many Louisiana people (including myself) are here?

Lived in Houston in the memorial area. Nice restaurants, nice Spanish women, and lots of jobs. Traffic is a nightmare though. I loved the Galleria area and going to college in Houston.
There’s IMAX and a nice Zoo to visit. If you are gay, there’s the montrose area. Flooding is an issue but you are an hour from Galveston and about two hours from the Hill Country.

It's staggering. It's why you see a restaurant with Cajun in the name all over. Our subdivision alone is about 10% from Louisiana.

I think I see more LSU/Saints gear than any other team outside of A&M.
