I love when people have this sentiment. Like Exxon, shell, bp, chevron.... etc know they can meet all energy needs via renewable sources, but they want to continue spending billions on exploration and then billions more on the transportation of the products that may or may not come from the exploration just so they can be spiteful.

most of our lives are shitty unless you just focus on the good. someone said it on here the other day. even an OT balla is closer to a homeless person than the really rich people that control our daily lives.

But why do so many posters on here take shots at the good people of the Oil & Gas industry?

It’s jealousy, and that’s it.

I worked in the oil field for a good while. I went through one lay off, and then got hired on again. I saved my money then decided to form my own company. People can say it’s not jealousy, but that’s what exactly what it is.

Things I have learned in this thread so far

1) On this board, there is exactly a 50/50 split on pro oil field baws and anti oil field baws

2) Most of the disdain stems from uneducated young people who make a lot of money and live lavishly, showboating their reckless spending habits. This is the only profession in history where people do this.

3) Most posters on the OT Lounge do not own jets and live in Mansions on a private golf course. It’s possible that some people are over exaggerating their income

Pretty soon will be the time to buy some MWD kitboxes. I may scoop up a dozen and put in storage for the next upswing.

I never did make it back to the D&C side but I did hit my 5 yr goal and get picked up by an operator.

Thinking hard of leaving O&G all together. Hate to have to restart though.

I tried in 2015. Just couldnt save enough in the industry I moved to. Kinda want to be a park ranger or something along those lines. But that will pay even less

I don't have any disdain for them but I can see why some people do. When times are really good, many but not all O&G guys are super arrogant.

Congrats. It must be tough working in an industry that frowns upon homosexual culture and lifestyle. Keep pressing on baws.

I never worked at a refinery but I had a cousin who did. Don’t these guys work their arse off working 12 hours days then switching to nights ? That alone seems difficult on the body.

Plus you work in potentially hazardous conditions. If a lot of these guys have families, your dealing with stress with that.

I might be way off base, I think these workers earn the type of money that they do. It seems to me that this kind of work is not cut out for everyone.

Personally, I work mostly swing shifts at my job where I stay on a regular sleep and food schedule. I would not want to change my working hours one week from the next.

I'm not coming back if I can help it. I'm getting a surprising number of interview requests from a different industry that I never would have expected. I got one yesterday when I was out biking. They want to interview me for a management position where I would spend 90 days basically learning the industry and then go out on my own.

OP, I've just met too damn many of them who are pricks.

Like, if you get drunk and tell everyone at a bar that you made a whole $82,000 in one year, you're a prick.

No long explanation I can type out would explain why people hate you more that your above statement. You’re arrogant and want people to pay more for gas to help you keep your industry afloat. Maybe if you were more humble, people would want to help more. I’ll enjoy my $1.80 a gallon. Learn to code, baw.
