Awesome watches
Seiko are awesome watches for the price. Everything is in house and the quality is top notch.
Orient is an incredible watch as well for what you get for the price.
All you ballers with the Rolex, I’ll stick with my Seiko SARB...just a perfect watch.
My next purchase is the Hamilton Khaki.

Lol. What is this nonsense?
Watchuseek?
AP make great sports watch, JLC make great dress watches (MUT moonphase, daaaaaayum). Patek? Bro, thats a dress watch. Richard mille, wtf, illegible garbage for NFL shits like OBJ... the epitome of new money.
Geez, if naming completely unrelated brand genre-wizards, then you could at least name some serious horologic masters like A.Lange..... but he is talking Rolex-- dive watches and sport watches are their main game.
And with that said:
Rolex is the premiere dive watch brand on the planet (non-obscure). Besides Blancpain, name another better?
What they do, they do well.

Rolex DateJust
Never wore them was given as an award from a vendor versus going on the vacation. Put in the drawer.
4 broken Seikos also.
Good watches probably need the gasket and battery.

Explorer I 214270. It's under the radar and most people will never notice I'm wearing a Rolex. Worth every penny.
For the person questioning movement quality. I wear my Explorer daily and it runs +0.7 spd.
Obtuse, who do you recommend for servicing in the BR area?

Explorer II x 2. 1 stays in the winder, 1 I wear daily. Love em.
Had a Seadweller, but a long fish story took it off my wrist near Mars; and yes, it was a bloody wrist and that fricking 185 lb yellowfin died!

I have some questions about trading watches. I have a solid, entry level collection.
Through a jewelry trade, my wife gifted me a Datejust 36, Oysterseel and yellow gold. I really do not wear watches like this. I have some nice ones (an Omega Moonwatch, a Bell & Ross, and similar) but tend to opt more for the sport watch or vintage look vs elegant.
How do I go about trading this watch for an Explorer II? I believe it’s retail is much higher than an Exp II, but I also know that the Exp II is a crazy popular watch. Also, is this a dumb move on my part, value wise?

Contact the guys at HQ Milton they will give you an idea of the value of your watch and find you what you want.

The one I wear the most here lately is a 37 year old 16660. I love the look of all the old watches with the tritium markers that have turned yellow. Rolex watch collecting has always been popular. What is crazy now is the price paid for the faded inserts. A lot of these were just given to watchmakers when they installed new inserts. Some are now worth several thousand dollars.

I have never had one serviced in BR. However, I would trust Watch Repair on Florida based on other work, Watch and Clock Shop on Gravier in NOLA who does excellent work on higher end watches and assume he would do excellent work on Rolex as well, the only one I would trust with a high end watch near BR, he did some work for me on a Breguet chronograph. There is also a guy on Main St in New Iberia who has a CW21 certification from AWCI but I have never used him.

Honestly, that is one I would probably look to make a sale and buy and not a trade.
Two-tone 36mm DJs can vary a lot in price based on the age/reference number, box and papers, dial, bracelet, and condition. Most will sit from $4500 to $9000 but that is a big range.
Explorer IIs will run around high 5K to mid $6k for a 16570 in either dial. 216570 will run around 8500-10000 with the Polar running about $500 more than the black dial. So you will pay above retail even for a lightly used 216570.
You should become a member of TRF (The Rolex Forum) and or WUS (Watchuseek). Both are a wealth of info and you may be able to sell your DJ through one of them.
You can always look for retailers to sell the DJ too but they can't pay retail for it obviously. HQ Milton is an option.
Just keep in mind new 36mm TT DJs will sell for ~2K under retail and new EXP IIs will sell for ~1-1.5k over retail. So new for new depending on how the DJ is configured is kinda an even trade, used DJs don't hold value as well as EXP IIs. While I haven't seen (or honestly pay attention) to the two-tone DJ market SHOULD be picking up some steam since the TT market is coming back, or so all the press is telling me.

As mentioned Date Just 41mm. I think he did a great job picking them out. Smooth bezel, oyster bracelet, and stick dials. Understated and timeless IMO.
