Made it to our friends house in Katy. Just saw where they issued a mandatory evacuation for our subdivision. It is caused by our retention ponds failing and starting to back fill inside the levee grin oyster creek.

I'm glad you all made it to a safe location!

We were packing our go bags and mappng our wading route out the neighborhood a few hours ago. Thankfully, water started receding at 1230. Gonna try to get a few hours of sleep while the forecast is clear.
It's crazy to think I was driving to exchange a Redbox movie at 6 then by 10 was thinking we were going to have to wade out.
Good luck to everyone.
just amazing to see this stuff, especially for those of us who've never dealt with flooding in any real way
I follow stories like this and just generally assume "oh they're in Houston or BR or whatever, so they're used to flooding," although with an unprecedented flood like this, it makes me wonder if that line of thought is incorrect and that there are people in Houston who've never even conceived their neighborhood could turn into a lake before now.

Nobody gets used to flooding. That would be like California is used to forest fires.

I'm keeping track of all the news bunnies ( traffic and weather girls) that say, 1 to 2 inches is too much
I will have my day

Good luck guys. What a shitty situation to be in. I hope all of y'all make it put unscathed.
If I see an Erik Estrada look-alike floating on a blowup doll I'll know you had to seek higher land, Owlie.

What I'm referring to is conceivability at all, not "ho hum, another flood/fire." I assume people in Houston and Louisiana have seen major flooding around them at multiple points in life, whether personally impacted or not. But maybe that isn't entirely true.
And I think people like me probably look at Houston and go "well, they've got to have a plan for those events, but I don't need one because it just can't happen here." Which is probably not the best idea.
