My dad showing me how to flyfish.

My dad teaching me to drive a 3 on the tree

My dad saying "what you'll worry about, tomorrow you'll ask yourself why"

1/3 success is terrible at almost anything. In baseball, you'll be a millionaire

Going to the mall with mom and hiding in the circular clothes rack and scaring people.

The mean old lady at the Broadmoor Dollar Theatre then Frostop root beer float afterwards.

Cruising on the highway with dad, windows down, sipping on an IBC Root Beer and acting like I was smoking a candy cigarette (all while he sipped on a tall boy and smoked a real cig).

Everytime I see bamboo in the woods it takes me back to building forts.

Everytime I see a plastic swimming pool, it takes me back to sliding down hills and ‘cliffs’ in the woods.

It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
Smiling faces I can see
But not for me
I sit and watch
As tears go by

My riches can't buy everything
I want to hear the children sing
All I hear is the sound
Of rain falling on the ground
I sit and watch
As tears go by

It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
Doin' things I used to do
They think are new
I sit and watch
As tears go by

Playing under raised houses as a kid to get some relief from the heat in the summer months.

Fishing on the Mississippi River under the part of the Sugar Refinery that is built over the water with the huge discharge pipe from the mill dumping a continuous stream of sweet smelling water into the river.

Camping in the river batture on weekends and in the summer months and building bonfires with the driftwood to cook our hot dogs and other food we brought with us.

Going to my grandma's house on Sunday's for the family meal and all that great food she cooked.

Heading to the old Arabi Show on Friday nights as a kid, getting in for $.50 and using the other half dollar to buy a soda, popcorn and a bar of candy. Then after the show let out, walking down Mehle Ave. to the river to go to the bar where one of my aunts worked to be picked up to head home.

That bar is still there and operating.

Yeah, I'm that old......

Then my mom walking 3 coat racks away out of my line of sight and me thinking I’ll never find her again and now I’m an orphan

Playing a 33 on 78 so it sounded like Alvin and the Chipmunks.

I vaguely remember there being little spherical stuffed animals with googly eyes. Some people stored them in empty egg cartons. They were about 1.5".

Raisin biscuit cookies.

Some of my favorites were just going on errands with my dad. Getting Krispy Kreme donuts early Saturday mornings or taking the car to get washed. Little things like that. I really got into football in middle school and it's been our thing ever since. They're my favorite days.

One of my favorite memories was when my parents, myself and my brother were on spring break in Gatlinburg and we all stopped and watched the episode of South Park where Cartman was the robot. We died laughing and just had the best time that night. It still cracks me up when I think about it.

We were raised Episcopalian, but my best friend was Catholic and I’d go to mass with his family from time to time. After mass they always stopped at the boucherie for boudin and hogs head cheese. On the way back to his house his dad would slice slivers off the hogs head cheese with his pocket knife and pass it to us boys. That hogs head cheese never made it home. Being poor we didn’t go out to eat, but hogs head cheese in my church clothes in the back of a Pontiac Catalina was my first exposure to appetizers.

Waking up on like a Wednesday morning in the summer, watching SportsCenter, and then its rerun for two hours, until the price is right starts. Then I watch the Baton Rouge feed of the price is right which was always a day behind ours. Then the rare but much loved noon Braves baseball game on TBS.

This song brings back vivid memories of how I spent Sundays during my 70s childhood.

One of my mom's uncles drove a milk route for Borden's, back when milk was still delivered to people's homes. After he finished his route each day, he would drive his milk truck home. At 1-2 years old, I thought he had the absolute coolest job in the world.
