The accident happened last November and it usually takes about a year for the final to be released. The prelim stated no cause at that time.

I've been watching for a report. I look at the wife's mother's Facebook page every once in a while. She's constantly posting pictures and videos of her daughter and granddaughter. The wife was an only child. It's so very sad. She never mentions missing the husband, so I get the feeling that although the funerals were held together, the wife's parents are not happy with him. I believe he was not buried with the wife and child.

Yeah, that was definitely pilot error.

Or, I see two other possibilities. One, Jaslene was bitching at him the entire time, she went psycho, grabbed the yoke and crashed the plane. Two, dude realized he married a crazy chick named Jaslene and she forced him to name his kid Paxton, so he pushed the stick forward.

Also, I became a praying man because of once a week trips on a PHI chopper in the gulf for a couple of years.

I've flown in choppers a few times and have always wanted to be able to fly them.

That said, in a former life I was a workers' comp adjuster and only did the investigation phase before handing it over to another adjuster to pay the benefits. One of the first 20 or so claims I handled involved a guy (crane mechanic IIRC) flying on PHI helo from one rig to another in the GOM. Shortly after leaving from one to go to another the damn thing flipped (not sure how) and landed upside down in the gulf.

Dude didn't have particularly extreme injuries IIRC. Mostly soft tissue I think or maybe significant back problems, but nothing broken. Guy was WAY more effed up between the ears after that than the physical pain/injuries IIRC.

Kind of changed my mind about flying helicopters.

Overall, the planes are safe. Most accidents end up being pilot error. Think about it this way...how many time in your life have you been in a car where the engine shut down completely? It just doesn't happen often
Wierd stuff happens, but usually in a smaller plane there are several options to land (streets, fields, etc)

Sad story

Very sad indeed. Until I see the the final, I won’t rule anything out, but one thing is clear, he should have never been behind the controls especially with his family onboard. There is no excuse for that failure on his part.

There is zero chance I am putting my family in a tiny tin can plane like that.

This has been happening a lot lately. A guy has just enough money to buy the cheapest plane/helicopter available and then flies their family around in it for shits and giggles. It makes no sense to me.

I realize you can die driving to the grocery store but traveling in cheap planes just for fun does not mesh with my dad/husband brain.

it’s not so much that as it is under experienced pilots with over inflated egos

True. We don't know if the crash was due to pilot error, but his family should never have been in that place with him. Period.

I'm still wondering if his wife knew his limited license or if he just didn't tell her. He was flying another relative in some other videos before that.

My FIL flew small planes and I have friends now that do. He used to fly them around all over the place and never had an incident.

Most of these accidents are pilot error and I believe the #1 cause is either running out of fuel or not being in the correct tank. Totally avoidable. Also turning with no power or no altitude is a recipe for disaster.

For everyone throwing shade at single engine airplanes a dual sounds safer but if you have a failure the glide ratio and flight capabilities in a single engine is preferable to a dual due to the added weight. Plus you basically double the cost of ownership with a dual so most private pilots don’t spend that kind of money.

I get in single engine planes a good bit. However, I have to admit I feel much safer in a turboprop.

I think you can add weather conditions to your post for many of the causes.

It can be done. An instructor pulled the throttle on me in a Grumman AA5. “What are you going to do, Rancho?”, he smirked. I was young and full of piss and vinegar. And I knew the airport and every inch of the surrounding area. Also I was somewhat higher than usual when he had tried this before. I brought her around. Now this old boy wasn’t your ordinary flight instructor. He’d flown for the CIA in Nam, and the right seat had to be modified to accommodate his balls. He let me dead stick that bad boy. This is made somewhat more remarkable by the fact that the AA-5 wasn’t know for its stall friendly characteristics. Quite the opposite. I sweet talked that thing off its wings and on to its wheels, grazing the numbers. He pulled out a Marlboro red, lit it, then offered me one. (I was 16.) “Not bad.” That was the biggest compliment I ever got from him.

VCSB. Hopefully you took the cig he offered.

You know the wife was a Hollingsworth from Ragley? Closer to your age but no doubt you at least know her mom.

Yeah, she was a year younger than me. A lot of basketball camps together and whatnot growing up. She was very sweet. I used go stack hay for them during the summers as well.

99% of the time we flew 12 or 13 in a big arse Huey but there was that one time I had to go into Galveston to see a doctor for a minor injury and my trip back was on a little (Bell I think) two seater.

The pilot was a Vietnamese (asian) war veteran. We could see the rig waaaaay down under us and he actually banked that little chopper and nose dived (at least that's what I perceived) toward the rig. Cactus 101 platform rig. I was the derrick hand/brake weight and sometimes crane operator.

I pretended I wasn't about to trash my pants but as we got closer he leveled back up and it seemed the machine actually shuttered on the landing. There was somewhat of a jolt when we hit the pad and the pilot grinned and asked, "Scared you didn't it?"

I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction, so I said, "Let's do it again."

Yeah, I was terrified.

A friend of mine’s dad said it best: would you be more comfortable hiring a hobby pilot to fly your family somewhere, or would you be more comfortable hiring a professional?

Don’t be a hobby pilot to your family.

Oh hell yes. Where I’m from, most of us made our first attempt at smoking cessation between 4th and 5th grade.

We’ll never know if he went through his checklist before taking off, did he check the fuel, did he do a run up, etc?

I had a very similar experience. I was a derrickhand offshore and had to go in alone to register for my classes that semester. It was a Bocal chopper and that dude banked it on what felt like a 90 degree angle.

Could be Russian / Chinese bots or farms sewing discord in our country.

Russia’s been supporting extremist groups in the US since WWII. They tried to use the KKk and black extremists to create a race war about MLK’s assassination.

Of course they are using bots to try to create narratives to divide us. They’ve been sowing discord here for decades.

I’m a firm believer in the dead internet theory. When some random “person” on social media is being an ahole I just assume it’s a bot

You guys act like everything is fake and/or a bot, and we didn't just have a huge meltdown over Sydney Sweeney that proves there are actual sick arse people who hate the other political side with everything they have.

Are you referencing the internet articles written by people with a financial incentive to get the most clicks? Cause I don’t know anyone that has mentioned Sydney Sweeney’s name in months

Write a normal, middle of the road news article. Then write an article with a hot take, pisses people off, or melt about something stupid and see which one gets WAY more clicks

Want to know why ESPN pays so many people who give the stupidest takes all the time? Because that’s what people actually watch. Nobody watches people being reasonable
