On the other side of the Atlantic, seasons used to be different under the Hebrew calendar.

I don't care which calendar is used. In the northern hemisphere of this planet the seasons are the same across the earth.

Do not try defending such an asinine statement.

ETA: Obviously this isn't the case any more.

Not trying to one up you, but hasidic jews still maintain the ancient calendar.

They were ruled by the Romans but the Jews still kept their own calendar and laws which made the season reversed. So January 16 (Jesus's birthday) was actually the beginning of winter.
I have no problems with this statement, just the previous one about it being summer in Jerusalem 2000 years ago in January.

I know that is the case today, but what he is referring to is when seasons on the opposite side of the prime meridian were different.

But seriously we are due for another one right? Last one was like 780,000 years ago.

What? I am now totally confused. I understand how seasons work only one way and that is the tilt of the Earth. Being on either side of the prime meridian means nothing to seasons.

We are talking ancient Jewish history, not modern science. I think this is where we are missing each other.

Gotcha. I just didn't understand the summer thing being in January, but If it is just a difference in the Jewish calendar I think we are on the same page now. Sorry for confusion
