Not at all. I get wanting to capitalize on a good property investment, but I would hate it if my neighbors started doing it. People buy property and move into a SFH area to avoid having to deal with that kind of turnover. It sucks I'm sure.
Eta: this is why I live in a hood with an HOA and why I smirk at certain nola people who smirk at HOA hoods.

I'm biased as someone who uses AirBnB to rent out charleston house when we're not there.
BUT the arrangement is akin to a sublease of property rights and not a as a service based industry provider such as traditional BnB (which are licenses to use the property.) The AirbnB agreement gives almost all rights of use and enjoyment save the landlords right over tenants. A preexisting HOA could obviously create a rule prohibiting it.
Technicality and I would understand if someone used it as a hostel type setup how that could piss off neighbors.

It's different because you aren't sharing your car as with Uber. The owner does not have to be at the home with air bnb. Think if people started a rental car facility out of their garage...

A lot of the airbnb houses in Nola are owned by large leasing companies who never have any intention of having someone live there. They are in effect truly just hotels.

I wouldn't be a big fan of having one next door to me, but I think it works itself out in the end. If an AirBNB is so terrible, it lowers the property value around it, leading to lesser neighbors and worse neighborhoods. It's in the best interest of the AirBnB renters to prevent obnoxious folk from staying in their place. It takes time, but I think it works itself out in the end.
I have a relative that is VERY anti AirBnB, but is very liberal and wants tax dollars spent on everything. I don't feel like explaining to her that, in the end, AirBnB raises property values/property taxes.

If it's a company doing it, they're all about the short term cash flow. What the property values are like in 10 years is secondary, if it matters at all. They may not even own the property by then. And even if it does work itself out in the end, there's a lot of disruption in the meantime.
A lot of people on here fetishize the so called free market. It doesn't always work perfectly, and even when it does, it's possible for people to get screwed over through no fault of their own. When they object to that happening, it's not "butthurt."

Sounds like the same complaint the homeowners in Southdowns have about renting to students for a semester. Just an extended stay hotel really.

When I left my last apartment uptown because I bought a house, it became a $300 a night rental. It's occupied about 90% of the time, which shocks the hell out of me. It seems to attract a different, better, type of tourist though. Mostly older Europeans not people who eat at hipster food courts. It's laughable that hipster transplants created what the bywater/marigny has become and are mad that people just like them want to visit.
I understand the frustration renters have trying to find a place now. But I also see the massive appeal of $300 a night vs $1500 a month to a home owner.
