Patients have to shoulder some of the blame. We have become conditioned to expect that a treatment or medication is necessary for every ache or pain.

Watch the video I posted. While funny...it makes valid points about pain pill seekers.

Many hospitals are now reimbursed based on patient satisfaction scores. Which is bullshite imo. Now if a patient doesn't get the treatment that they expect cause their spouse googled it on and saw it on some website online...they can give negative reviews on their patient satisfaction survey.

Physicans, they are the ones writing the scripts and over prescribing antibiotics as well.

The unfortunate thing is the true chronic pain and related disorder patients who actually need these meds for basic quality of life will suffer the consequences.

Maybe no one is to blame

People just like drugs? We don't have to have a villain for everything

If only physicians oversee and sign-off on them...

This. I live with pain from multiple surgeries and arthritis from hell and they want to ship me to pain management. I'm not willing to surrender human dignity and go to PM so I mostly suffer and self medicate. I have insurance

Doctors. Pure and simple. They can stop it right now if they wanted to.

They have, and that's why we have a huge heroin problem.

The doctors who knowingly over diagnose and write the prescriptions with too many pills and too many refills.

It's not that hard to pin it down

I've been told by a few doctor friends this all started when doctors started being sued for under medicating pain. It became a very subjective mine field. You can blame them for not taking a stand against it, but like most things, lawyers got this ball rolling.

It's all multifactorial. But all of this is about to come to a head now that it's becoming harder to both prescribe and obtain these drugs

Not hard at all to get. Cartels supply the drugs to the US

I think you can take all of societies ills and boil them all down and reduce to a common denominator and it will = addiction and alcoholism. Meaning that you have to address everything at once to see any appreciable difference.

I know someone who just beat cancer and has other issues but they are prescribed a Fentinyl patch daily and three Roxycontin 30s a day.

No way anyone needs that much.
