Message Who is the most impressive person you have met?
PawPaw.
He was born in 1919 - a faithful husband, father, farmer, foreman, and Master Gunnery Sergeant. He served 5 years of horrific active combat (Pacific).
No one will ever match the awe, respect, admiration my brother and I have for this man. He was a consistent daily part of my life until my mid 20’s.
TL;DR INo one will ever be as impressive as my PawPaw.

bet he had some stories to tell!!
Probably so. But I was 11 at the time and my experience was a handshake and a pat on the head with a “alright little fella.” Haha
But I did meet him!!

Guy Bordelon, only Navy ace in the Korean War. Got him to sign a print of his Corsair for my brother. Very cordial guy, had a nice chat with him.

I have met a lot of people who are/were impressive in their own way....
I met Shaq, that was impressive. I met Edwin Edwards when I was a kid.. You can say that was..... um... impressive sort of.
My grandpa, who was a WWII veteran, he was.. well he is gone but still is.. impressive to me..
A guy I became friends with, I consider him impressive. Smartest guy I might have ever been around. In summary, he went from having a drug problem in HS which he dropped out of, went to rehab and got clean and got his GED. Went to community college, transferred to LSU and graduated with a 4.2 GPA in Political Science and before he actually applied, was asked to attend LSU law school... He is now an attorney. In his office. He doesn't have his law degree hanging up or his BA on the wall... He has his GED hanging up.

Work with a Colombian named Fritz. Got a double bachelors in Physics and Mechanical Engineering by 18, and Masters in Mechanical Engineering at 20. Came to the states and finished his Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering by 23 at WVU.
Dissertation title “Prediction of Mechanical properties of aerogels using a multifractional multidimensional multiscaling approach”
He is the smartest human I have ever met in my life, but at the same time, is the most approachable guy as well. He solves problems that don’t even exist yet.

As far as celebrities go, I got to meet and speak briefly with John Bul Dau, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan. It was very illuminating to hear the pragmatism and cynicism of the Sudanese people - I suspect many people who live in forgotten areas and suffer forgotten crimes would reach similar conclusions. He had incredibly harsh words for the UN.
For average joes, I have a friend who graduated from Harvard Med School. She's one of those people who seem to operate on another level of intelligence but remains very grounded. Bounced all over the world doing cool things in undergrad as well.

Capt. Peter B. Wright. Only living captain in the IGFA Hall of Fame, has caught more 1000 lb marlin than any other person in existence. Pioneered the use of lures while trolling, Conservationist, Marine Biologist, Professor, and a friggin' male model at one point
Got to fish with him for a couple of days in 2014 and he had a huge wealth of great stories and wisdom to share.

To yours as well.
I went to BR today and visited my wife’s divorced parents and am now home in the hills of Mississippi and drinking some high dollar whiskey.
