So, Scruffy is in a wedding and everyone and their mother wants to give a speech at the rehearsal.

Always thought that it was supposed to be limited to best man, maid of honor, and dads.

Is this something Scruffy just hasn't noticed before?

Sometimes the groomsmen give a speech at the rehearsal then the best man gives his at the reception.

I honestly don't even always hear a speech but usually just best man/brother and maybe the parents.

Traditionally it's the grooms parents who say something since they usually put on the dinner.

But now every bride has 12 bridesmaids and they all want to have their 10 minutes of attention and say the same goddamn thing the last one just said.

It's getting ridiculous IMO.

Yep, and family. Usually some funny, "this one time" stories shared with family and close friends. Can get very uncomfortable.

More of a congratulations with some light humor or funny story.

I went to a wedding last year where every groomsman and every bridesmaid gave a speech. As did every parent and sibling of the couple.

What sucked most is that they were all fricking perfect. It was a seminar for being successful and public speaking.

My brother just named me his best man so I'm currently in the middle of planning his bachelor weekend, knowing there's so much more to go. Pretty stressful, but trying to make the most of it all

Really just depends. I've seen it all. From the traditional parents of the groom and maid/matron of honor and best man, to passing the mic around and letting anyone there give a speech.

I was prepared to give one last week at the wedding I was in, but the timing and way it was setup didn't make sense so I just let them roll with what was already taking place.

This has been my experience as well.

All weddings are different. sometimes people think they are better public speakers and funnier than they really are.

Son is getting married this Dec.. He and the fiancé decided they wanted -0- attendants. " I want a 5 min service, and eat" I am digging it.

At my rehearsal dinner last year most of the groomsmen and bridesmaids gave speeches (10 each), as well as parents, grandparents, and close aunts and uncles. It was in no way a coordinated effort or anything, they just had a microphone and people started going up to speak as they wished.

Typically it's the father of the groom who paid for the rehearsal, the brides father if he so chooses, best man/maid of honor, then close friends if they so choose.. I've only given one when I was the best man, crushed it btw

Preferably no one. Load your plate up at the buffet, down as many free drinks as practical, and head for a bar ASAP.
