Hate to break it to you, even with year round daylight saving time, the earliest sunset would still come around 6 pm in late December in South Louisiana or earlier if you are farther north and/or in the easternmost points of your time zone. Now that is better than 5 pm, but at least your sunrise is not pushed back to 8 am in late December to compensate for year round DST.

I just want to see my yard a little when I get home from work. You retired mother frickers can just sleep in a little bit if the sun is coming up too late for your coffee on the porch.
