That's true. I forget how old the remaining Beatles actually are.

The first part of this was written before I watched the clip. The last part was after I watched it. My opinion changed.

It’s easy to poke fun at someone for not knowing who Ringo is when they are right by him. And then I stop to consider whether I would recognize him. I know what Ringo looks like. But I have this thing- it’s not face blindness but I often have difficulty recognizing people if I don’t know them. Celebrities, people I’ve met once or twice, my doctor outside the office, etc.- if I see someone out of context it’s very likely I am not going to recognize them unless my wife points them out to me.

Knowing that about myself it’s hard for me to be too judgmental for someone not recognizing a celebrity in their camera view.

Now that I have watched the video, the guy is an idiot. I don’t necessarily say that because he didn’t immediately recognize Ringo when he took his mask off. I say that because even when he was told who he was, the guy had no clue. That’s just a complete lack of cultural awareness. I have kids a little younger than the guy on the vid and they might not recognize Ringo in that situation but if someone said that’s “Beatle Ringo” they would absolutely know who he was and be excited.

It’s not that hard to fathom for me. I’ve ran into multiple famous people and not recognized them until introductions.

Hell, I tried to pick up Erin Andrews in the bar at the Ritz in Dallas. I was with some buddies and noticed her and asked my bartender what she was drinking, ordered one and walked it over to her. After I handed it to her and introduced myself she said “hi I’m Erin” I told her it was going to sound like a line but that she looked super familiar. She started laughing and said “well I’m on TV some”. I literally asked her doing what and then it hit me.

We both had a good laugh and finished our drinks. My buddies I was drinking with were dying because they knew who she was the whole time.

Expecting teens today to know the Beatles is like expecting '70s teens to know Rudy Vallee.

Sir, I knew who Rudy Vallee was because Rudy Valle still showed up on television shows and was still being played on the radio in the sixties.

Unpopular opinion: Wings was a damn good band.

That’s… not really unpopular?

Wings gets shite for not being The Beatles while also not being different enough to avoid the comparison, but I don’t know that I’ve heard anyone legitimately try to argue that they didn’t put out good music.

It’s been a few years, but it was in a Martini glass and a pinkish/light red color. What exactly it was I don’t know if I ever knew. I just had the bartender (Ben was working that night) make another.

Lots. I might not have recognized some by face at his age.
Did you watch the video? Someone told him it was “Beatle Ringo”. He still didn’t know who it was; he had no clue.

If someone said “ that person is domino fats” I sure as hell will know.

I’m not begrudging the guy for not recognizing who he was. I just find the video funny as hell.

Fun fact - a lot of people don’t know that Ringo narrated the original Thomas the Tank Engine video series along with George Carlin.

His voice was an integral part of my childhood.

I have a great niece and nephew, teenagers. I'll see them this week and ask them if they know who Ringo is and if they don't know, I'll ask if they know who the Beatles are. I'll report back.
