It would have. But the State Legislature said no, you must make a new city.
Who said that? Which legislators exactly said this?
Its not like the black caucus is going to change their vote. Oh, you mean the ones who want to get their hands on St. George purse strings? Ones that are already involved in things like this: LINK
Hate to break it to you, but this scorched Earth method of getting a new city will effectively guarantee we won't get a new school system. The school system requires a majority parish-wide vote to pass and now that the St. George public relations folks have turned this into an "us vs. them" thing, it will never pass.

How have they not been built to keep up with enrollment?
Pretty easy to keep up with enrollment when no one is enrolling because the school system is shite

Yea. Doesn't the parish have to vote to allow the new school district to form?

The legislature said it. Just because you do not know that is not anyone else's problem.

There's only one legislator? You claim that the legislature said they won't pass the school system unless you give them a city.
I'm saying the one behind all this wanted a city from the get- go. So, I'm asking you if there's any other legislators who said this, or is this all based on the oh so trusty Senator Bodi White's word?
I'm also pointing out that this divisive strategy used in getting a city will cause the majority in the parish to vote against the new school system.

Apparently a lot of people because they still don't have enough signatures needed.....

Yes. Central passed because it's always been thought of as a town, it's isolated, and it was revenue neutral anyway. They changed their boundaries to appease the Feds and also didn't turn it into a shite show.

Going to get their own city but no school district.

I think people don't understand where parish dollars end and the incorporated city's obligations begin ..

I don't know. I live in Zachary so I don't really GAF. Haven't been following.
The Mayor Pro Tem, Chandler Loupe, represents an area made up almost entirely of the SG area.
SG has much more representation on the city parish council than north Baton Rouge does.

There are like 4 people on the council where either most, or half of their district includes St. George

I don't understand!!! Someone explain this to me. These people obviously want their own school district. They obviously are a large portion of the tax base. What's the problem? Why did the legislature say no? Who is going to be hurting more if the new city is formed. The St. George citizens with higher taxes, or BR without the tax base? It seems like the legislature may want to just give them the schools and avoid all this mess.

No shite. That's why I'm asking questions. I haven't followed but there are like 6 threads a day on it so I figure it's a big deal.

Touche. But lets be real, an education is what you make of it. I have know kids from BRMHS, Catholic High, and Runnels that have failed out of LSU, while I know engineering grads from Woodlawn, McKinley, and Scotlandville.
