What can I do to make sure St George doesn't happen? Threaten these people with my goons?

I disagree. Better economics for the 100,000 plus people with better schools and more jobs would say otherwise.

Move to or stay in BR. City of St. George is a done deal.

Yea all the middle class parents will be able to save between $5,000-$20,000 a year depending on how many kids they have.
You think people are just going to abandon their religious affiliated schools overnight? And the property taxes would have to rise to afford the schools and infrastructure needed.

IMO, they should go revisit this issue. Forming the city just doesn't do anything good for the region, other than a good school district.
I think this will be the end result, without the incorporation happening.

The jobs are already here and growing. There are already top school districts in the region.

The EBRP school system collapses without the 70816 and 70817 schools .. It would be ideal to be school system only .. That would force the EBRPSB to wake up .. The city stays together and the schools improve .. Central tried the same thing first, but was forced to annex like this attempt ..

I just don't think drawing an imaginary line through the city
There isn't an imaginary line being drawn. The line exists today as the city of Baton Rouge.

I am probably against the incorporation of St. George, however, if the schools could break off and form an autonomous district like was requested from the Legislature, all this separate city talk would end. Baton Rouge schools suck--period. The magnet schools are nice, however, not available to all. One of my kids was denied entry into BRMHS because he was white. His scores were very high, but as a counselor there told me, "We have our quota of white kids. Let him try entry next year."

Last I saw they didn't even have half the signatures needed.

Some will. There are ways to get religious beliefs taught to children without it being done in a school system. Taxes won't necessarily have to be raised. That's disinformation being put out there. If they did want to raise taxes that would have to be put to a vote regardless.

Pretty much, I am confident that religion has little to do with why most parents in EBR send their kids to religious schools

I'm sure people that can afford to send their kids to private schools understand that taxes will probably go up. Most people don't mind paying taxes for their local schools if they are competently run. Can you really blame them for not wanting to keep giving their money to EBR? They are literally the worst run schools in the country. They don't deserve the St. George money.

I agree except just forming a new district doesn't automatically make it a great school district. I think most people don't really have an idea what it would cost just for a new district much less a new city. Some of the ones jumping up and down for it and the new schools won't be able to afford to pay the taxes needed to support their kids.

I am again those terrible people petitioning their government to solve problems in their community. Bunch of nervy assholes who love their kids and shite.

Lol why?
Just get the signatures and send it to election?

If anything, this whole thing has forced BR to put the pen to paper and realize SE BR swings a massive dick in the city's big picture ..
Posted on 2/10/14 at 8:35 pm to TigahRag
Oh I agree. And I understand why they are doing this. Just don't think they are thinking big picture.
