I expected somewhat of a response, but the responses in this thread from not only people struggling, or that have struggled, but also people that have done just fine, is incredible.
Life's not nearly as complicated as people make it out to be. If you view the life as a competition and you're always working for some prize, it gets a little more complicated. Keep it simple, adapt, adjust and realize the goal is just to be happy.

I was a total jerk in my high school years. I was completely lost in my twenties, no direction, no ambition, only wanted to party. In my late twenties was forced to face the harsh reality that even though I had great parents I needed to be able to take care of myself, by myself. I was fired from a job and got on unemployment compensation, during that time I went back to college to earn a degree in something that would lead to a good paying job, but I still didn't know what that was!! Happened to take an accounting course and BOOM, that was it, I loved it. Got my degree, worked my arse off and became a CPA. Moral to the story: find something you love to do and as they say "you will never work a day in your life".

Do your national boards for the salary and respect bump. Consider pursuing graduate and post-graduate degree in either SPED or Curriculum and Instruction. Both routes will open doors to district administration for you. You can also utilize multiple federal loan forgiveness programs to pay for the degree(s) (as well as the associated salary bumps). They also tend to be offered online.

Life is a series of repetitive seasons.
Plowing.
Planting.
Harvesting.
No one, no matter their age or income level, is immune from this truth. The plowing times can be rough, but you will get through them. The harvesting times, as you have seen in this thread, directly relate to what you plant.
Building a strong faith in God will get you through difficult trials, but you have do your part.

Sometimes we can never really know the true value or benefits of things until further down the road and often it’s in a way we didn’t anticipate.

I worked in commercial radio for about 12-13 years as a DJ.
That’s pretty bad.
So yeah.

Thanks for the sharing. This thread is living proof that miracles can happen and that you never know what God has in store for us. I was a solid gold five star frick up my whole life. I was my own worst enemy. Messed up and lost golden opportunities, relationships, friends, education and my credit score. All I wanted to do was get drunk, get high, and chase women. Back in february my doctor said that I was a candy bar or a mixed drink away from pancreatitis. I changed my diet, hit the gym and lost 25 pounds. After several unsuccessful attempts to quit drinking, I went to AA and started working the steps with a sponsor. Now I have 75 days sober and trying to put the pieces back together. These stories have been a great help and great motivation to stay the course.

There’s an app called Meeting Finder. You can find a meeting in your area. Check out r/stopdrinking on Reddit. Good luck and get to a meeting!

This is exactly why I made this thread.
Keep on keepin on man.
Im going to go ahead and say it even though I wanted to bitch smack anybody that told me this : it only gets easier from here.
Boo Krewe: dude, get fricked up and go to a meeting if you need that to get you in the door.
The only requirement for AA or NA particiapation is a desire to quit drinking (using).
Doesn’t say shite about having to be sober does it?
I’ve relapsed several times in my life and gone to an AA meeting as high as a kite, hoping I’d hear somebody say one thing that helped me do something different.
You don’t have to talk, share, anything. Free coffee and a chair to sit in.
Just keep coming back
Edit : Boo Krewe, I’m in no way condoning illegal drug use or telling you to do it. Simply saying, if you’re always fricked up, don’t let that stop you from going to a meeting

This. You don’t have to share. Just listen. You’ll realize that you are not alone.

I've been doing this for 18 yrs. Are you saying I been doing it wrong the whole time?

Seriously. This is the vast majority of America. Who wakes up everyday and goes to a job they love, doesn’t party on the weekend, is not depressed Monday - Wednesday, and anxious for the weekend?

I was a full blown junkie for probably 7 or 8 years. I always functioned better when I was high. Then after I got clean off drugs, I became an alcoholic for about 2-3 years. Now I have a kid, so fricking up isn’t an option anymore. shite ain’t worth it bro, I have way too many people counting on me. I still drink way too much every now and then and hang out at the golf course a little longer than I should. But I’m miles away from the guy I used to be.
