Sounds like you got a good one. When I met my wife I had gone back to school at 26 yo and was working nights/odd jobs to make ends meet. She had an established career. It never bothered her that I couldn't afford to take her out often or spend a lot on christmas/birthdays/etc. She's an incredible lady and I don't deserve her.

she is indeed. she was a year older than me and graduated on time and i took 5.5 years. we got married and she had a semester left while i had 9 left.

she worked so i could finally breathe my last half of college.

then she stayed home.

Can't tell you how many times I left my card at Bogie's on a Saturday, and it was closed Sunday, and I had no way to eat because I didn't carry cash and couldn't go to Capital One on Sunday's.

There's lots of stories about being a broke college student in this thread, but I don't think that really qualifies for the OP's question.

Also, if you are going out drinking at bars, you are not "broke"

In college I had a student checking account with Regions that had about $3 in it. Account was supposed to be free with no minimum, but Regions decided to start charging a $5 quarterly fee which overdrew my account. I put the only $20 in cash that I had at the time in the account, to which they then charged me a $25 overdraft fee which overdrew my account AGAIN. Had to wait a few days before I had yards lined up to cut to put $60 in.

Went in to Region to talk to the manager about it and they refunded me 1 of the 2 $25 overdraft charges. A few months later they went back to free checking.

Shortly after I closed the account and will never step foot in a Regions bank again.

I could afford to barely eat a $1 double stack and free water during college.

Now unemployed girls at ULL are posting videos every weekend eating at Ruth Chris and Vestal.

Where are they getting this type of money? Prostitution?

It's called DIVORCE and I have been there. She was living the dream while I was eating bread and drinking water.

Made a bad business investment in the early 90s. Had to start over from scratch. Thanks to some great advice from my father and a supportive wife, I pulled thru to now be retired and financially secure

All good. About got the old rig up now. Have replaced almost everything on the old Johnson, just Chasing some lingering electrical issues at this point. Only way normal people can afford to hunt now is public land by boat. All the walk in stuff is so crazy hunted and fish pressured it's tough.

In college, I sold a roping horse for $4,500. I was ignorant that an out-of-state check (Louisiana) took 7-10 days to clear. I partied all graduation weekend, writing checks everywhere I went. I wrote 20+ checks that bounced and were overdrawn for nearly a week. This was the only overdraft(s) I ever had, and it was embarrassing AF to go back to all the places to settle up.
