I grew up a poor white kid. But I had both parents who stayed on my arse about school and doing the right thing. I didn't do anything to make myself unemployable. I learned a trade and went to work. I don't feel sorry for people who make bad choices.

That's a different argument. If you're trying to place bets on which kid has the easiest path to success, you're kidding yourself if you choose a black kid in this country.

Spoken like someone who fails to realize the vast majority of people making hiring decisions are white.

Idk why this is difficult to grasp - if you're trying to give yourself the best chance for success, you don't choose to be a minority.

There are plenty of factors that are more important, no doubt, but all else being equal, being a member of the majority race is an advantage.

Rich white kid. Seems that successful white people are the devil in today’s society.

But aren’t these programs in place to do exactly that? Give the AA kids an easier path to success,it sure as seems that way.The standards are lower as well as the expectations in school as well as the workplace. These programs were put in place to try to level the playing field but if the participants are unwilling to put in the effort then the results will not reflect

I have several family members in h.r. for major refineries. There are tax breaks and requirements for hiring minorities. If you want to level the playing field do away with affirmative action.

If you don’t believe blacks have a leg up in being hired in today’s age (especially state government work) then you’re just naive...

Of all college graduates in Louisiana, what percentage would you say are black? Probably about 15%. Of that, how many are women? Maybe 9-10% of total Louisiana college grads are black women.

Walk into any Louisiana state government agency office, and you’ll see a 65% black woman workforce.

Let's see, black kid goes to all white school and he ends dating a white chick. White kid goes to all black school and gets his stuff stolen and his arse kicked everyday. Easy choice there.

White kid has it harder.

If you even remotely have your shite together as a black kid or even better, a black female, then you'll have it made.

You have a clear advantage over white kids.

+1 on the quality surrounding the kid, not just single/two parent households. Was raised by my mom from about 11-12 up, and her side of the fam. I learned a whole lot about hard work and getting my arse busted from my grandpa and uncle. Both were huge father figures in my life. So this whole 1 or 2 parent household thing I think isn’t quite the issue, it’s the totality of your surroundings. College grad, employed making good money, own my home, own toys, etc etc.

Poor black kid with a 27 MCAT is a lock into Med School. Poor white kid with a 27 MCAT application gets thrown in the garbage.

Statistically speaking it is a huge deal. Your experience is the exception to the rule. It also sounds like you had someone available and willing to assume that role.

A boy without a positive father figure in their life is at a massive disadvantage.

Agreed, but my point of the post was that a “single-parent” household can be negated if you do have others surrounding you. Not Mom and dad specifically. Good family/friends/role models.

My wife grew up poor.

To look at her, the average person would deem her white as the virgin snow. Shes 25% hispanic.

That little bit of spic in her(though she was raised in her hispanic family) meant she qualified for education and small business grants that she wouldnt have had she claimed 100% white. She used the education grant to go to school for free. Not one penny paid. I had to take out loan after loan to go to school.

Just one quarter.

Thats how racist our own government is.

So to answer you question:

No question at all.

White kid.

, all these people paying for private school and doing everything they can to give their kid an advantage must be idiots. All you really need to do is have a black kid instead.

, this fricking board sometimes.

You know the answer to that. That’s why I think it’s harder for a white kid these days
