My wife worked at a bank. They are everywhere. A lot of people have more money than you think

Millionaire is an outdated term now thanks to inflation. However, the people mentioning land owners are correct. Small counties are littered with people who live in modest homes and drive older vehicles that own millions of dollars worth of land.

real money (70K+)

This made me chuckle. There are plenty of people making that "real money" in the poorest counties in any state.

None in Covington. Here we are all just menunaires ever since Mickey D's put us on the map in the 70's.

Somewhere along the line it became a negative thing to have a nice house and car. Not everyone wants to live in a modest house and have a 10 year old car. Some people call debt leverage.

In Mississippi, we have a saying. "Don't judge a man's wealth until you've seen the shoes on his feet and the tires on his truck."

Nobody says that

We walked into the Cadillac dealership in shorts, T-shirts and flip flops and wrote a check for a brand new Caddy. It feels fabulous to be able to do that.

This is not always the most financially savvy decision.

I want to work until I'm 67 and save every penny (no eating out or fancy stuff) so I can retire in my shitty old house with two million in the bank.I'll live a boring life but at least I never have any debt!

There was a guy in Ruston that I used to see cruising around in a Viper. He looked like a hobo but he was loaded. I think he made his money with daiquiri machines.

Dolf Williams?

He came as a guest speaker to one of my Business classes when I was at Tech. I remember he had that Viper.

For real

This just sounds terrible to me, minus the fishing

Didn't want to offend the farmers here. I'm referring to the farmers in my neck of the woods. There's none that I know who started from the ground up. They are all farmers who inherited their land and equipment. Land doesn't get sold around here but just passes to the next generation. The guys my age (30's) won't even put hydro oil in the tractors. They call someone for that. It's incredible how much of their family's money that gets blown on stupid shite. I see 1-2 more generations down and the money will be gone. Brand new F250's yearly, big time paid hunts, vacations, and 400k houses are just some of the things that will eventually do them in. That's the norm around here with farmers my age.

What? Being in debt and living above your means is the American way. Our society wouldnt collapse if people weren't materialistic.

The overwhelming majority of people support that kind of lifestyle.

This. Debt is only good if you're better than the lender at managing the time value of money. Most people aren't, so they lose a lot of money in the process. Lifestyle can eat wealth really fast while frugal habits can build it rapidly.

sounds like me. I do that stuff which allows me to work minimally and travel. Eating out is just something that doesn't appeal to me these days. I'd rather get together with friends and eat a bunch of stuff we gathered from the sea.
