Just a little FYI about central Mississippi Choctaws. Small groups of the Choctaws didn't take the trail and began calling themselves Dutch Negros. I have always been told our great great grandma was a Dutch Negro. So I did a little research. Lots of the Choctaw (Dutch Negro) women were assimilated into Hillbilly culture, those that weren't are the Ms Band of Choctaws. Not to be confused with the Choctaw Nation.

There are usually certain requirements to be recognized. For example, an ancestor on the Dawes roll. For some tribes you also have to actively participate in the tribe.

Worked with a girl that kind of looked like Angelina Jolie.

Her driver license listed her as Native American and she even went to college on a special scholarship.

When we asked what tribe she was a member of, she mentioned that you'd have to ask her mother.

No. My mother, and her mother and father all "looked injun". So did my father's mother.

My dad, and his dad.... don't. I look like them. One sister favors mother, one doesn't.

Cherokee have been intermarrying for so long I'm not sure there are a whole lot of "pure" bloods.

So no, me at least it doesn't bother.

I am almost part Indian.

According to the story my great-grandfather was in love with an Indian in Okalhoma until he met her mom and bolted because she was the stereotypical old squaw.

likely apocryphal but he did lie to my great grandmother about his age and she didn't find out until they filled out some insurance form after they were married, was 20 years older, not 10

Don't really see white people out in AZ trying to claim they have Native ancestry.

Course....have you seen the tribes out in AZ? Been to the reservations out here? White people don't want to claim any of that.

Define "almost all".

Considering the majority of people in Louisiana likely have french ancestry (same could be said for southern Mississippi), and given that Texas and Florida were under Mexican and Spanish rule before becoming states and therefore likely have more of those bloodlines present, I'd say your "almost all" is most likely not even close to true.

If you would have said the Northeast though, I might have bought that.

Let's not forget the Italians, English and Germans. Boat loads (literally) of those folks immigrated back in the day.

Well, no shite. I don't think anyone will argue the French-Canadians migrated to what is now LA. But that doesn't change the fact there is no NA blood in the SE minus around eastern Tenn, western NC.

ThAts actually a cool story. I've never heard Dutch Negro before. I did know about the MS Band of Choctaws are its own nation. I really never went to Philadelphia too much. I did know one girl who full MS Choctaw. She was socially inept though
