Sorry if most of the black people I know don't FORMALLY adopt . . . there does seem to be a cultural phenomenon of moving kids from one relative to another.

The foster to adoption process is sickening in La from what I have seen.

Long story short I watched the agency in Lafayette give a 1 year old back to her prostitute mother who was failing her drug test. The motivating factor for wanting her child back was to be able to get state benefits.

Eventually it was revealed that the child's agent was lying to the foster parents, neglected to provide them with court date information, all because she didn't want to have to deal with the paper work.

my parents fostered a kid after all of us were pretty much out of the house, he ended up marrying a girl that was the daughter of a family friend, their kid just finished playing four years of college baseball and is in the farm system of the Yankees

Cousin and her husband adopted 3 black kids in Baton Rouge recently. Not sure how it's working out for them.

Brothers I think

Define cultural phenomenon.

If you think shuffling kids around is only done by black people then you are lying to yourself or blind.

I wouldn't even call it a class issue because I see it in middle class America as well. Plenty of kids being raised by aunts\uncles and grandma/grandpa unfortunately.

However, to say that black people don't adopt and foster is naive.

This seems to be a big deterrent for willing parents, essentially the red tape all of the agencies (for both domestic and foreign adoptions) participants face. I know of couples that have been wait-listed for 5+ years only to be turned down. Lots of horror stories about all of the crap good people have to deal with.

In 2015, eight percent of all black children did not live with either parent, compared with four percent of Hispanic children, three percent of white children, and two percent of Asian children LINK

never seen a black couple adopt a white kid, but at our health club there is a white Lesbian couple that has adopted three black siblings. One of the children is special needs and they do an amazing job with those kids.

Ya its hard as hell to get a young infant/toddler for adoption in the US. There just isn't a lot available in general. Of course, older kids are available but good luck with that.

I wouldn't say the foreign adoption process is "easier," they just have young kids available unlike here.

but adopting American born kids is exponentially more difficult than adopting Asian or African born kids

I have a friend who has been trying to adopt a girl from the Congo for 2 years. They finally got everything approved, but now they must wait to be invited into the country or something like that. It has been very tough for them though. I honestly was beginning to think they weren't going to be allowed to get her.

On the other hand my sister(white) adopted twin black boys. She fostered kids and surprisingly all the babies she fostered made their way back into the parents home or a relative that wanted to raise them. These two boys were the 6th and 7th kid by their mom and she didn't have custody of any of them. They have been with my sister from day one. It took some time, but the process was pretty cut and dry. I think fostering helps speed the process up in our country.

Try and get a girl from other countries. Most are running baby farms and will not allow it. They keep most girls to reproduce. Sad deal and I think about it every time I see someone adopt a boy overseas.

Why does it matter as long as a kid is getting a chance to have a family then spend their lives in foster care.
