Are you allowed to deduct capital losses from other ventures? That would be interesting...
I think you're allowed to carry up to a certain amount, but it's not anywhere close to 100%. I am not a tax specialist, but I do understand the economics behind it pretty well.

Misstery, I've had bad sinus problems for 3 weeks now. It began right after numerous airplanes flew over my house. What should I do. I'll hang up and listen.

Ya i don't really have investment money at this point in my life, but am close to paying off my student loans!!!! So maybe after that I can look towards other ventures.

I'm not saying that we should eliminate investment. I'm saying that all the arguments y'all are making about how important investment is still don't justify a 15% tax rate. If you raise it to thirty, investors won't stop investing. They still need money, and they have no other means to produce it. Your typical venture capitalist isn't going to quit his job and learn a trade because the tax rates go up, they simply have no other options but to invest.
Here is where you are disconnecting.
The venture capitalist (or hedge fund investor or private equity investor or mutual fund manager or whoever else) isn't going to stop doing what he does, but if the returns go way down (and a doubling of the tax rate would certainly do that), the limited partners don't invest in those vehicles. Returns crumble, liquidity comes to a standstill, and those places fold one after another.
Every single retirement fund, institutional investor, and whoever else has money tied up in this system. They do that because, while very risky, it can offer good returns. Double those taxes and that goes away with a quickness.

Oh really? Cause that's what I was saying.
Come on, you're just being difficult now. I'm not saying we need to make being rich a crime or even that we increase capital gains to the point of discouraging investment. I'm simply saying that missing out on tax revenue (that could boost the economy in the form of tax breaks for middle class) is a waste. Increasing the burden on the investing class and decreasing on the working class would help, a lot.
Not all out communism, but higher than fifteen fricking percent.

I honestly think a lot of them would be happy as a pig in shite to see endless lines of white people being lead into giant brick buildings with a sign in one end that says "showers" and on the other end a chemny pouring smoke.

So then what do the limited partners invest in? Do they just hide their money under the mattress at that point?

i have no doubt either. what is insane to me are straight white males voting D. the democratic party at this point is pretty much openly hostile to white males.

They'd probably move as much as they could overseas (or, at least, that's what I would do if I were them). They're going to avoid paying American capital gains taxes wherever possible.
You'd run into the same problem we're having with corporate income taxes right now, and our corporate income tax is beyond stupid.

After the election when Cali had a petition to leave the union, my thought was this. Let all the left move left to Cali, it can be it's own country and we can all sit back and laugh. It would make one awesome reality tv show.

I'm down with this, but you don't get taxes from me anymore.

Black people should be denied the right to vote indefinitely until their demographic attains a wedlocked birth rate equal to that of whites.

Though it would be unconstitutional to do what the writer suggests, she does have a point. White males are the primary source of resistance to the progressive agenda. A better method would be to educate the regressive white male population on issues of fairness and equity.
I have nothing against white men, btw, just don't particularly care for the way they vote.
Thus the problem with today's liberalism, i.e. horse shite ...
"I don't 'like' it when people disagree with my liberal crapola; therefore, let's try to brainwash people & fill them full of libtard bullshite propaganda (lies) by flowering up our absolutely asinine a-logical ideology with nice sounding terms like 'fairness & equity' when in reality our bullshite is anything but fair & equitable since we're not allowing people to have differing opinions because it hurts our fricking feelings." ... LIBERAL MANTRA: "Your rights end where our feelings begin." ... Idiots.
