I'm not in oil and gas. I was commenting on the mass amount of resumes we get from oil and gas

Went to OTC on Tuesday. It seemed lively, not many sullen faces.

OTC is free for students

I would assume the academy is paying for the trip. Also, letting the students out of academic requirements

Oil is back down to $45. Companies are still laying off workers. Workers that are kept aboard are doing the jobs of two people. The laid off and employed are miserable. After this bust is complete, it will be the worst bust in oil and gas industry history.

I didn't see much that was really crazy other than some safety hazards.

My dad was in Legos for a year selling PDC bits and while out on a chevron rig offshore they got siezed by pirates.
Chevron paid them some money and they left nobody was hurt. apparently this was common in early 90s.

offshore

Offshore has been moved further to the right of the supply stack...world wide and in the Americas.

If one wants to drill for oil right now in the US offshore is the priciest cost/bbl you can drill for. The payback for shale oil is just much better than offshore right now. Granted offshore wells have much higher production, they also have a longer time frame to come on line and much higher capital cost.
