Being shelled in foxhole, or being depth charged in a submarine?

I cannot imagine would it would be like to feel so helpless.

Most sub accidents I heard of death isn't subtle or quick. I couldn't imagine sitting at the bottom of the ocean waiting to die.

My curiosity was piqued as I recently finished up Countdown to Armageddon and am currently watching Das Boot.

The 1st hand descriptions from the shelling in some of those WW1 battles is just unbelievable to me

Thats what I thought you meant. I'm about halfway through the first episode, it's fantastic so far.
