Security risks nothwithstanding, the small investor takes takes a beating trying to unload precious metal on the retail market. The people and entities making a killing are trading notional ounces that they never take physical possession of.

That's about $60k in silver by a rough count, was about $70k over the weekend before the price dropped a little.
