Generally the police will do that part for you. They use it as a tool to catch the burglar.

Think about this. Do you see anything wrong with someone setting up a camera in their bathroom and recording guests using the restroom? I assume so. There are certain things where there is an expectation of privacy. Just because it is your property doesn't mean that rules don't apply to you.
