I don't get why the guy wouldn't take a settlement and keep the car.

An old car like that a flood isn't the end of the world. It's not full of electronics.

Maybe he didn't have the means to restore it again or just didn't want to.

Maybe he had to put that towards home repairs or temporary housing?

It'll bring good money on copart more than likely. A flood isn't going to scare anyone from that car.

I've seen some classics, that were pretty fricked up, bring way more than one would expect.

Estimated retail is $55K, and the owner may have had a stated value insurance policy. If they had other flood losses (or even if they didn’t), it’s potentially a lot of money to walk away from.

My bad, buddy...totally forgot about the devastation in the NE. I saw all the NY/NJ cars and I was like, ummmm...then remembered.

I'd say Agreed Value would be more likely on a 1969 Camaro.

Requires an appraisal, photos, documentation but if there is a total loss you are being paid what you and the insurance company agreed on.

Stated value doesn't guarantee you are getting that amount, even though your rate is based on that number.

Hagerty policies are agreed value for an example.

eta-Say that car was insured for $30k (It's just a small block auto 69 Camaro and not a show car). "Restoring" it after a flood wouldn't cost anywhere near that. Rebuild the rear end and trans, possibly the engine depending how deep the water was, fresh wheel bearings and brakes and it's likely good to go. Interior pieces are all available reproduction and not terribly expensive.

You clearly don’t live in Lakeview by Fleur de Lis. My neighbors flooded that didn’t have raised houses and Sheetrock/insulation is still waiting for pickup.

What’s the dealio with this site? For instance these modern flooded vehicles just need all the electrical changed out? And you need a business license?

Someone is literally going to steal that Camaro. I’d have never let the insurance take it.
