Which is worse: your conscience tormenting you or not having a conscience at all?

I mean sure if you want to just go the easy route and just play dumb and say no conscience then go ahead. You do things no human should do and nothing. You maybe used to have a conscience, you remember the feeling of deep regret and loss. Now you feel nothing and you realize if you don’t have a conscience you can’t feel anything. No love, no joy, no sadness and no fear. All you can feel is the weight of the knowledge that whatever life you used to enjoy or have is gone. You are a shell and everything you once believed is now gone like the summer haze on the horizon.

You think to have no conscience is to be ignorant? You still understand everything but feel nothing.

Having a conscience can be a problem to self.

Not having one IS a problem to everyone you encounter.

That makes me think of this stand-up bit from Kyle Kinane. There aren't any videos on YouTube just audio but its hilarious.

I feel like not having a conscience would be liberating. I would welcome such a state

Would really suck. It means basically you can't feel human emotion.

This is me to a T. Having experienced both, I prefer it this way. I'm more focused and productive without worrying about emotion or guilt. I've trained myself to act out proper emotional response in certain situations so people don't think I'm cold hearted. But nothing bothers me at all...it actually makes me overall happier because I don't have to deal with negative emotions. I know right from wrong and do my best to do right to others

When I was drinking that was me. Now, I have many regrets.

To feel the full range of human emotions is awesome.

So how do you know you don’t have a conscience? I mean, you may have just mastered the mundane. But what have you really done that’s so bad?

I disagree about not being able to feel joy. I guess it depends what it is that brings you joy, but you would be able to pursue it without any restrictions.

Not necessarily. Only if you choose to hurt others. You can not have a conscience and still be a good normal person. It makes relationships difficult though because you lack the deep emotional connection and it is pretty much just physical pleasure.

But the positives are it allows a person to be focused and driven to accomplish things in life. It also allows you to objectively self reflect and understand yourself better. You can be a hell of a lot more honest with yourself and to others...because well you don't give a shite what they think.

Not having a conscience doesn't mean you've done bad things. It just means you wouldn't feel guilt if you did.
