In past years it was inarguably the Navy.
However, I think the Air Force is ever-increasing their roles and responsibilities. They captain almost all cyberwarfare which is becoming a daily, almost hourly threat to our country. I think they're also the champions of our nuclear silos as well as controlling all those drones we hear about.
If we are IN an active war, I'd say the Navy. For day to day operations, though, the Air Force could edge them out.

we are talking about transporting gear to the combat zone like the desert. ie tanks, troops and helo's
Not what a Navy ship already has on it while deployed around the world. Posting a deck of F-18's doesn't prove anything.
The AF does the lifting getting the Army's and sometimes the Marines shite into Iraq and Afghanistan.
