Where were you when you heard about the Deep Water Horizon explosion

I know some of our more immature members use this day to celebrate the use of narcotics but let’s not forget what this day is truly about.
At 9:45 PM, during the final phases of drilling an exploratory well, a geyser of seawater erupted from the marine riser into the rig, shooter 240 ft into the air. This was soon followed by the eruption of a slurry combination of drilling mud, methane gas, and water. The gas component of the slurry material quickly transitioned into a fully gaseous state and then ignited into a series of explosions and then a firestorm.
At the time of the explosion, there were 126 on board. 11 workers were presumed killed in the initial explosion. THIS IS THEIR DAY.. please show some respect.

In college, woke up and saw it on TD. Selfishly my first concern was how it was going to frick offshore fishing until I heard about the loss of life. RIP to all.

Pretty sure I was playing around on TD and heard the news here first.

I think I was at work. I don’t know. Really isn’t one of those “remember where you were” things.

I had just bought my first house. Woke up and saw the post/pictures on TD while drinking coffee. Did not realize how terrible it would be at the time.

In college/grad school, I got to know Mr. Blair Manuel (middle all the way to the right) pretty well.
Damn fine man.

I remember reading it while eating lunch at Favori deli on Maple in N.O.
Was a crazy time.
Afterwards it was interesting seeing ppl run Mass Spec analysis on ground up shrimp looking for petroleum in seafood.

I was in LAX on a layover, flying back from our honeymoon in Kauai. It was like 4 AM and I saw the rig on fire and thought "this is real bad"

I was on the H & P 105 drilling rig about 7-8 miles from it. I could see it burning at night.

We need an Alan Jackson song about the Deep Water Horizon ASAP..
Maybe even a follow up Darryl Worley song claiming we've all forgotten about it.
