re: Where to live in New Orleans for a young professional?

I have a niece who lives in a condo on Coliseum St and a sister who lives in the Saulet Apts on Annunciation St, both in the lower garden district. They walk many places and feel very safe in the daytime, drive/uber at night. It’s a great neighborhood for young people, close to Magazine and easy access to warehouse and quarter, university areas.
Also have another friend whose daughter just graduated from tulane law and she rented a house close to uni. No problems at all. Just need to be diligent and careful.
I could hook you up with one of them for recommendations if you’d like.

Good luck. Uptown would probably be the best bet for your daughter - close to the park - there used to be some doubles on Laurel & Annunciation that were affordable. But it’s been a while.
Mid-City close to City Park used to be good - but car insurance was always sky high in 70119. It’s not as safe as it used to be - but if I could go back there I would.

New Orleans is desperate for one more attorney

It's actually Metairie Rd (north), Airline (south), the 17th Street Canal (east) and Carrollton Ave. (west). Old Metairie is really only like 9 houses.

She set on having a roommate? Know of a 1BR/1BA, about 600sqft right on Mag. Gated yard, recently renovated. Probably $1200 or so, maybe $1k.

Lakeview has very few redeeming qualities for a young professional
I would say
Bayou St. John
Irish channel, as close to Magazine as possible
The options around the universities are solid and relatively safe
Mid city as close to city park

Everyone in NOLA always argues neighborhood boundaries
My mom’s boundaries of the Channel are not what is labeled on most maps
I posted what I found on a website bc there might be more of a consensus

Irish Channel is bounded by major roads now rather than what it used to be.
Don't try to sell your house on Delachaise as Irish Channel though. People will get all indignant.

I was just being willfully absurd.
I'm fine with Airline / I-10 / Causeway / 17th St. Canal being the boundaries of Old Metairie. The main point-of-contention is whether you extend the northern boundary up to Veterans, and I'm OK with that, too. That little strip of land between I-10 and Veterans seems to fit.
Some people extend the boundary a bit west of Causeway and that's probably OK, too. I think it's pretty clear what isn't Old Metairie and everything else can be called Old Metairie.

I'm the complete opposite. Just giving some advice. She will make her own decision.

Tell her to be ready to leave her car doors unlocked at night so the thieves don’t have to break a window to gain access to her car’s interior on their nightly expeditions.

My 24 year old daughter (no pics) lives in a little one bedroom in the LGD, just off Prytania and Jackson. Not my first choice as a dad, but she is happy.
Let her decide.

Oh it’s ok - I really didn’t know the actual boundaries bc I grew up in the city - so I had to look it up - Dorignac’s is old so I figured Vets was reasonable
My mom’s old boyfriend said he grew up in ‘old Metairie’ and he lived by Rummel - he’s pretty old so I figured it must’ve been old

Coliseum Square Park is nice, pretty safe, walkable to lots of things (bars restaurants, coffee, etc...) , and easy to get to Metairie or Westbank.
