re: Where to live in New Orleans for a young professional?

If you’re working downtown with no kids, I would recommend the warehouse district for a yuppie or the bywater for a hipster. If she cannot afford those, then maybe a place in mid city or the Irish Channel.
Lakeview is for wealthy families who send their kids to private schools.
Uptown is gorgeous but likely unaffordable to live in any decent property.
There is no reason for a twenty/early thirty something without kids to live outside of the city limits if they can afford to.

Better than it was. Think she would be better in half a double or a house than an apt complex.

It has probably been mentioned, but Lakeview has problems with crime. Look towards Harahan/River Ridge.

That’s hard to get back to after a late night of partying. I lived in Harahan for 6 months, then moved back up mid city
ETA: this was about 20 years ago so I know the safety factor is different

I dont know, I have heard mixed reviews on it.
But there are other complexes in mid-city, some brand new ones close to there on the greenway. Other older buildings that were turned into condos.
Id still prefer a house. frick apartment living.

I see people wearing their masks there which is a great thing.

If I had two kids and a wife im not living in the city, has nothing to do with being old or scared. More like, bang for your buck. I dont need to be in walking distance to dive bars and my weed dealer when i have a family to look after.

Old Gretna near Huey P Long Avenue. Bars, restaurants, cafe, farmers market, paved levee, etc.
Quick drive across the bridge into downtown nola, but less crime and less expensive.

Agree for many reasons - but in NOLA if the apartments aren’t labeled ‘luxury’ then they have to take a certain amount of section 8 tenants (in Jefferson parish too)
Not all section 8 recipients are bad!! And not all apartment complexes are bad. You can have crappy neighbors when you have a house too. Just putting the info out.

Mandeville/Covington because that is where all of the business is relocating right now. Orleans Parish business community is migrating north in record numbers.

I just looked at American can prices. Cheapest 2 bed is 1800. frick that. My 2bd house is 1200 with water included.
And you got to pay for a parking spot at the apartments.

At the Saulet? I guess they’re still hiding from the FBI/DEA
