SE asia, like Thailand. The flight is the biggest factor after that you can live like a king on $100 a day.

Take a Road Trip up and down the East Coast, making stops along the way at various places. Another option is to fly up and drive back, or drive up and fly back in a rental. Go all the way to Maine and hike Mt. Katahdin.

same here, except the wife and i are getting all the expensive international trips out of the way while we don't have kids so that we can make a lot of those domestic nation park type trips once our kids are of age

I dont think if this was a joke or not, but since you already live in Miami this is VERY plausible. I did it earlier this year to the disdain of a lot of my friends and it was absolutely amazing. It is absolutely awe inspiring that a place so close to the US has been so isolated for so long.

The people love the American culture, and with you being in SoFlo already it wouldnt be too terribly expensive to get there. Flight through Allegiant or Spirit to third party country and cheap arse tickets to Cuba. Or if you speak spanish check craigslist. There are some sketchy cuban travel agencies offering legal travel. Depends on how brave you are. That's what I did, and despite being the only American on the trip, it was awesome. People really respected and were interested in me because I took that leap.

When you arrive on Cuba it is literally like walking into a movie from the 70's it is truly an amazing experience that I would highly recommend. Bring back two boxes of Cohiba, although it's technically "illegal" the TSA agent told me they normally look past it as long as you dont try to bring a shite ton. Just make sure to buy them from a legit store and not some kid on the street. Check out www.AIRBNB.com for some lodging options. Normally just young people looking to show you the culture and the nightlife. You wont regret it.

drive down to lake powell and the grand canyon. I made this trip about a year and a half ago and it was great. I thought Lake Powell was really underrated.
