Would it be cheaper to put several window units in a house than an AC unit? Cheaper as in.. The electricity it uses?

Maybe if you closed off a bunch of rooms and only stayed in a small area, but the central unit would be more efficient for cooling the house I would think and also be better for resale purposes.
