this will break my cousin's heart. He swears ULL's program is the best in the nation because of what one of his professors told him.

Depends where you want to live. AU is only behind GT in terms of quality of education and alumi base within the southeast. TAMU/LSU for LA, off shore area.

Having an actual well facility to learn at is a huge advantage for LSU's PETE department compared to other schools too.
This one of the things that is apparently only at LSU. Something Big Oil takes a lot of notice to.
They just built the new classroom at the PERTT facility. I was stuck in shitty trailers and a 30 year old building.

Who cares where its ranked. Everyone who is anyone in the O&G industry recruits LSU. I would imagine LSU's mech eng grads have to have some of the highest post grad incomes in the nation.

In general, I'd say top 3-4

True statement. A&M and LSU probably have the highest average salary in the SEC for someone with a BS in engineering do to the oil and gas industry

No doubt, the O&G industry definitely has some high salaries in comparison to a lot of other engineering industries. Hell look how much more the PETE starting salary is compared to everything else.

Not to argue with ranking but Alabama has invested a lot into engineering the past 5 years. Opened up four new degrees and pretty much rebuilt the north side of campus with its own quad. About 4 or 5 new buildings were built.
Expect Bama to get more competitive in these ranking.
Stay tuned...

this was not the case when i entered LSU though. at that time, EE was where the money was.

Your alumni base is tiny, and you're not a land-grant university. Go home, you're drunk.

Thats probably 4th highest salary coming out of LSU right now.
In terms of starting salary, I'd rank it:
1a.) PETE
1b.) ChE
3.) ME
4.) EE

& all money is raised for our new 100+ million dollar engineering complex also. Ground breaking this summer I believe?

The link you posted was for graduate programs, by the way.

it depends on your industry. i think EE is still slightly higher than ME on average. i'm not sure about ChE

They raised their half ($50+ million). The state is matching every cent the university raises.
Also, Big Oil donated a lot of that $50 million.

Discipline LSU Average National Average
Chemical $73,867 $59,600
Mechanical $75,216 $62,900
Civil $61,607 $57,600
Computer Science $66,000 $64,400
I'm not sure why PETE isn't included, I know they start out at the most. Upper 80's - low 90's. I walked in Patrick Taylor yesterday and saw the bulletin board that compared LSU starting salaries vs National Average
