In my bed, in my sleep as an old man...

An older gentleman passed away in our neighborhood Easter Sunday. The day before him and his wife went to the casino, that AM he woke up and helped his wife cook an Easter Dinner, after dinner he visited with his family and went sit in his chair, he fell asleep and never woke up again. That's how I want to go. He was 80 and walked every morning and was still getting around good. He went with a full belly, happy and peacefully.

Being sucked into a super massive black hole with the rest of humanity.

When I die, leave me in the pond of an apartment complex so I'm not forgotten

I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather...not like the screaming passengers in his car.
Old joke but one of my favorites.

I spent the summers working with my granddad when I was in middle school. The guy always drove a big dually to tow his trackhoe.. Anyway, he'd whistle and sing random shite while driving, and I could always tell when he dozed off - because it'd abruptly stop. I'd look over, see his eyes closed, and just yell "paw-paw", and like clockwork he'd open his eyes and keep whistling.
Looking back, I think the guy had narcolepsy, but it's a great memory that will stick with me.

When your times comes, you won't care where you're at. All that will matter is who's there with you.

since it's going to be soon I'd prefer it be at home in bed
but in reality it'll be in a hospital cancer ward

I at least wish you a peaceful end. Facing your own mortality is not an easy thing to do.

I'm not going to insult you by pretending to know what you're going through. My own experience a few months ago though was scary enough as it was even though I was still given a chance of survival, just not much of one. I had to have open heart surgery where my surgeon warned me and my wife there was a substantial risk I would not make it.
I remember the morning they came to my room to get me for surgery I felt 100% certain I was telling my wife and kids goodbye forever. Of course I was all smiles and positive for their benefit. But inside I was as sure I'd never see them again as I was sure the sun rises in the east. When they wheeled my bed out into the hallway to go down to the 4th floor for surgery I actually laughed a bit because I imagined this was almost what it was like for a death row inmate when they lead him down that final hallway.
What I did though was I made my peace with God, and took comfort in the fact I'd lead a good life with a loving wife and kids. Just focus on the good memories and good times.

100% agree. I've had a great run, not one regret

Thanks. It was a near run thing that looked like it could go either way for a while. And in fact did come damn close to going totally the wrong way one night. But this Sunday will be six months and I'm starting to function and feel normal again at last.

And in the end, that's all that matters.
