Yeah, I wouldn't pick the west coast. One half is rocky with sheer cliffs, rugged inland terrain, and a decent Army/Navy/AF presence and the other half is littered with military bases and has inhospitable inland terrain, desert, and mountains. And then you have the Rockies after that.

Invade from the West and you run into the Sierra Nevada, Cascade, Bittertooth and Rocky mountains. Invade from the North East/East you run into the Appalacians, Allegheny and Catskill mountains. This would slow down any invading force and allow an aerial bombardment like you have never seen. Well that would happen any where you try to invade. Invade from the South yoh funnel your invading force into the Gulf of Mexico either around Cuba or the Yucitan (good luck with that). I would try to come in around Georgia, South Carolina and cut off Florida and the Southeast.
No other country has the aircraft carriers available to sustain a contant air attack to keep our military at bay. That is if you make it through our Navy. You also have no carriers to protect your invading fleed the whole trip here. It would be a fricking target practice.

Yea, it's the Four Corners theory going back to around the World Wars - we have a massive military presence in all four corners of the country to defend against every angle.
Northwest corner has JBLM, Everett, Bremerton, Bangor, Yakima, and Whidbey Island just in Washington state.
Southwest corner has Pendleton, Edwards, Vandeburg, Miramar, NB San Diego, etc., etc.
Southeast corner has MacDill, Pensacola, Eglin, Tyndall, and Key West all in Florida and Georgia has Hunter Army Airfield, Fort Stewart, and Fort Benning.
VA/MD/DC was/is close enough to the eastern seaboard that they can respond quickly from there.

Push in from Mexico after that country is yours. Grab control of Houston and get a hold of the oil industry. Grab control of the Mississippi River. Continue to push east and west from there and if it goes well, you will have SEC country and the west coast. Continue to push to the North East while controlling as much land as you can

Wait for another Dem to take office and it's already been proven under Obama the Southern border is the most vulnerable to invasion. It just happened without tanks, artillery, and jets.
