Been using Waitr pretty extensively the past few months. Yeah, I'm a fatass; deal with it.

I live outside any of their delivery areas, so I just use the app for online ordering and pick the food up myself. They always collect a tip from me during checkout, and I just assumed it was passed along to the restaurant workers.

OTOH, the restaurant doesn't have anything to do with Waitr deliveries--in fact they regularly mistake me for a Waitr driver instead of just an online customer.

So, for Waitr carryout orders where the customers add a tip, are they passing along those tips to the restaurant or just keeping the extra dineros for themselves?

Also, if the order is for a delivery, does Waitr give the entire tip to the driver or split it somehow between the driver and the restaurant?

It goes to the restaurant or whoever took the order for pickup orders, the driver for delivery orders.

Has it really been 10 days already?

I guess we were due for the tipping thread then

No waitr shirt, but I do wear my work uniform sometimes. I guess they somehow misconstrue dark blue polos w/ ATT logo for black t-shirts w/ the waitr logo.

Not really a tipping thread per se. Don't care whether you tip or how much. Really just a question about how Waitr handles the extra money I'm giving them. Seems like it would be easy for them to just pocket the money when there's no driver involved.

A driver told me it goes to Waitr, not the restaurant.

Aren’t the menu items more expensive through waitr? Why not call the restaurant and place the order directly?

Why not get hired by Waitr, put in your order and accept it, then get paid to go get your own food.

Where Do Waitr Carryout Tips Go?

Alright, I got off my aforementioned fat arse and did some brief research on this question.

As expected, this precise issue has already been discussed on TD.com, just about a year ago.

Unfortunately, it looks like we didn't get to a consensus:
quote:

Where does the tip in the app go? Restaurant or driver?
quote:

[I]f you use Waitr for carry out orders, don’t tip. It goes to Waitr, not the the restaurant employee if that was who you were trying to tip.
quote:

Not true. The money goes to the server but the restaurant has to get it to them. If you know someone that has not gotten their tip then the restaurant is at fault
Next, I took a look at Waitr's FAQ. There, Brooke P. answers the question: "Who receives the tip?"
quote:

Delivery orders: Tips for delivery orders go to the Waitr driver.
Carryout orders: Tips for carryout orders go into the restaurant's account.
So, it has been a year or more, and we still don't know the answer to this critical life question.

Also, no one made a single "just the tip" joke in either this thread or its 2018 predecessor. I am a disappoint.

As a former mgr at a Dominos, we always split counter tips amongst the counter employees

Probably the correct answer. I did find out that if an order is fricked up and Waitr refunds the customer, the restaurant gets nothing even if it's Waitr's fault.

The entire tip goes to the driver, they charge an additional fee for delivery that they keep.

Waitr takes 25-30% of order if you use their app for delivery. I’m not sure about take out though. That being said, don’t use Waitr for take out.

Plenty. Why?

Also, I use the waitr app b/c I don't like the challenge of calling in an order for 5 people, all with modifications/changes, and hoping that nothing gets lost in translation. At least with waitr, the restaurant has a text showing exactly what I ordered so that "extra cheese" is less likely to become "no sour cream."

You order food through a third party app but go to the restaurant yourself to pick the food up?
