it's kinda dying out now, but the "western" accent is similar to a southern accent in drawl.

What do you mean by the north? There's a dozen definitions. New England? New England and the Midwest? Northern states coast-to-coast?

New England I think of maple syrup, liberals, and Norman Rockwell. The Midwest is rusted out cities, bland food, and terrible winters.

Blandness. Not only in food but people, personalities, and culture.

My first thought was Winterfell/the wall.

Back in reality, I can say from living among them that many of the stereotypes are not true. Midwesterners for the most part are very friendly, with some tPOS and rednecks mixed in as well same as anywhere.
Snow and hockey are obviously big talking points
The food, while not as good as back home, is great with tons of options
My favorite part...Craft beer scene is second to none

most of all the negative stereotypes that people on this site attribute to "the north" is basically attributable to any urban center, regardless of geography.

the most "rednecky" people in this country are in upstate NY, central PA, and Wisconsin

Hush up. This is a thread for people who have never been north of Shreveport and are still pissed about the civil war.

Yep, these as well.

It's funny how much hate the north gets around here. For the most part, it's a pretty great part of the country (speaking of NE only because it's the only part of the north I'm really familiar with)

I usually think of snow, skiing, good italian food, college basketball
The public transportation up there is pretty good in all the major cities like NYC, Boston, Philly, Chicago.

I'm pretty sure it's because most people around here haven't been much further north than I-10 (excluding those who follow LSU around to places like Syracuse, Green Bay, etc.).
